Happy New Year to everyone! I hope the New Year will bring only good things.

I’m back to posting and being back online consistently – it was nice to take a short break although I did still check email and watched videos online. I also just caught up to posting the last week on my journal. I didn’t want to overwhelm anyone’s reading pages so I posted them just on my journal, in case anyone wants to read it.

But here is a short summary of my Christmas/New Year/holiday week: I had a very nice Christmas with Bear’s family where I got four books among my presents (yay), including Stephen Fry’s latest autobiography, and a pocket watch so I could pretend to be in Doctor Who universe. Then Bear and I went to Montauk for a nice relaxing vacation with hiking every morning and even time at a spa! And in the middle of this vacation on a beautiful Waking Dunes hike, Bear proposed with a lovely ring, which I thought was just perfect for me. It has an art deco design on the sides. So I got to be a bit giddy and girly.

Today itself was a low key day. While Bear set up his laptop in my room and was doing some work I read Karen Armstrong’s article “Homo religiosus” which I will teach next semester. I do love her stuff but she is dense and complex. The students will certainly be challenged.

I did go outside to go to the bank with Bear but otherwise I stayed home and read.

Of course, in the evening I had to get ready for our holiday celebration. It was just my parents and Bear but since it is New Year, we all dressed up – with yellow and orange themes since next year is the year of the Dragon. So I’m wearing an orange shirt I got for my birthday, a black skirt and stockings with make-up and everything. I look more like a tiger. Mama made a delicious table of holiday food including a chicken and we took our annual holiday photos with the tree.

I hope 2012 will be a good year. That is the best part about the New Year celebration a hope of a new beginning.

Today I worked on “Early Rome and Law” lecture with the focus on the 12 Tables. The roman law is making me a bit nervous – it is the shakiest part of the class I will teach and I need to review it a bit. It really has been awhile. However, I actually like teaching subjects I’m shaky on since I get to learn it better myself.

As I went for the evening walk I got caught in the rain. I went to the supermarket for a croissant and sour cream and on the way back it started pouring. Not just little rain but buckets. I had my baseball hat on, at least, and it was pointless to run home so I just walked home in the pouring warm summer rain. It was fun actually.

I finished “Queer as Folk US.” The last episode of Season 5 came today. Overall, I give this show four out five. I didn’t fall in love with it like I did with the UK version but I ended up liking these characters (most of the time) once the storylines got out from imitating UK show. My favorite season was season 4 and my favorite character was Emmett.

At least I ventured out of the house today and put on actual clothes and not just pajamas. I had cramps so it wasn’t the most fun day and I watched more “Queer as Folk US” Season 3. I have to go for jury duty on Tuesday since I called in today and they told me to report. At least I’ll get paid and it is in Brooklyn, not Long Island.

Internet guy came this morning – our speed was acting up for the last month. He changed one of the boxes, modem, I think.

I don’t know where the rest of the day went. I started QaF US Season 3 and then I watched the Season premiere of Leverage in the evening.

2nd Harry Potter trailer came out - my heart will break for Snape all over again. Looks really good. Can’t wait.

I finished “Queer as Folk US” Season 2. I think I liked it better than Season One since the characters are better established. But it is a show I like but not love. I will watch other seasons and everything but it is not must watch for me.

Endeavor crew made their own space shuttle Star Trek poster . Awesome.

Season 8 of ‘House’ will not have Cuddy in it. This show is already sketchy in how it writes women. Well, at least in will be a change. I wonder if there will be new boss dynamic. I watch House for Hugh Laurie and his amazing acting but it will certainly be different.

Today I watched more Avatar: The Last Airbender and finished season one of “Queer as Folk US”. But the best thing I saw today was “Easy A.” That was a really fun movie and a comedy I can get behind. Nice crispy dialogue and very entertaining. I highly recommend it.

The guests are leaving tomorrow, so there is still lots of food every evening and more socializing than usual. A big contrast to next few weeks, I think, when I will get a house all to myself. I did really like Mama’s friend and her family and I have a standing invitation to Miami which I might actually take up sometimes.
