some thoughts on "Queer as Folk US"
I watched some of Season 1 on YouTube as it was available. I will probably get the rest from Netflix eventually.
It is a nice show but I prefer the UK version. Stuart is just a better character than Brian is. They are both assholes but Stuart is just more redeemable, there is more there. I believe that Stuart and Vince are best friends and Vince is just funnier while I don’t even know why Mike and Brian became friends in the first place. I just don’t buy them as best friends. So it actually makes sense than in UK show it is all about Stuart and Vince and Nathan is just outside but not really getting Stuart’s attention. And of course Stuart and Vince belong together. While for US show, I’m just really glad that Mike ends up with someone else who loves him and Brian has the maturity of Justin so he probably deserve that relationship more. It is just after watching Stuart and Vince together, and Stuart is so genuinely fold of Vince, always (naming all the doctors and all), it is hard to see Brian treat Mike like that. When Stuart calls Vince ‘sad bastard’ it is with love and genuine affection in his voice. UK show is also funnier to me (and both Stuart and Vince are much better looking too; I don’t find Brian that good looking.). But I will watch more of the US show, it would probably be better once I get past the similar storylines that played so much better in the original.
