My semester officially ended on Friday when I turned in the final grades for Local College. My writing classes in University were done on May 8th, so for the last week and a half it was all history papers and final exams.

I did get a bizarre email today from someone who wants me to change this one's student grade from a C to C+ to a B in one of my history classes so he could get this summer internship because the young man has potential and needs 2.5 GPA to be considered. He is an athlete and has been 'trying hard.' And maybe I can give him some extra credit. Yeah. How about working hard during the semester. This guy is lucky enough to get a C. His papers were terrible. He wrote about not believing in dinosaurs in a paper addressing the reliability of Tacitus.

As usual, the end of the semester is a bit anticlimactic. I'm pretty much tired, since I don't really get to have weekends during a semester: there is so much work and grading. But at the same time I feel I should be doing something and it is really weird to not have grading anymore or work deadlines. I did clean out my desk today and that felt very nice. I am taking a couple of weeks to breathe but I am looking for an internship, or temp job or something this summer. At the very least I'm going to volunteer. But next couple of week, I'm looking forward to sleep. Weekends in June will be busy with lots of birthdays and baby shower and I need to get all the presents set for that.

Bear has the last couple of weeks of weird schedules on his job. He ends pretty late so he usually stays over his parents' house from Tuesday to Saturday. And he will miss my birthday in two weeks. But after that he is on regular schedule again and I'm looking forward to that. We did get to have a very nice weekend - well Saturday afternoon to Monday afternoon that he had off. I made meatballs (new recipe I found online), my fancy rice with mushrooms and eggplant. And yesterday we went to see "Star Trek."

I really enjoyed to movie. I heard that some liked the action but didn't think much of the plot so I didn't have many expectations but I ended up really having fun and I didn't mind the plot at all. Sure it was pretty predictable and I knew what was coming before it happened but it was entertaining.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I like Thanksgiving as a holiday, all the food is sort of comfort food and it is kind of a nice break. I obviously never knew about it in my childhood but over the year we sort of adopted it. Mama always makes a turkey now, only not with stuffing but with mushrooms and rice. Today was a nice full day.

In the morning, with breakfast (and after watching Bear work out a bit), we watched a bit of Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade. Some of the songs and kid’s stuff was really cheesy but it definitely put us all in the holiday mood. Bear’s Mom put the turkey in the oven at 10:15 and it was my job to watch it since they were leaving to visit Bear’s Grandma for a bit (she lives in a Catholic nursing home type place). It took over four hours. Meanwhile I also made baked potatoes and Bear made the green bean casserole. We also went to return “Up” and took a little walk in a nice crispy November air. We had some lunch too, consisting of some smoked salmon and we watched the National Dog show which was cute and weird at the same time. After the turkey finally popped at 2:30 or so, it was out turn to visit Bear’s Grandma. We went there for about an hour, maybe a bit more. She seemed in good spirits.

When we got home, it was almost time for dinner. This year it was just Bear and his parents and me, but it was nice and cozy. I had a big full plate of a baked potato, green-bean thing, turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, gravy, a bit of mushrooms and possibly some other food I don’t remember. It was all delicious and I cleaned my plate. After dinner and a bit of a break where I just read for a bit, we had dessert of the most delicious apple pie Bear’s Mom makes, my muffin bread and the Belgian chocolates my parents sent over with tea and coffee. We also watched Thanksgiving Charlie Brown special, which I never saw before and I thought it was very cute.

In late evening, Bear and I watched J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek.” I’ve seen it in a movie theater with Papa in May and it was definitely the most fun I’ve had at the movies this year. Nice story and action and with a very Star Treky feel. I could even ignore the plotholes because I had so much fun. Bear was skeptical about it, but I knew I would make him watch it when DVD came out. So we finally watched it together today. While he still likes original actors and doesn’t want to acknowledge the total awesomeness of this version, he conceded that this movie would play well on the big screen.

Overall, it was a very nice Thanksgiving.
