I finished “To Your Scattered Bodies Go” this morning. It really left a lot of room for sequels. I know Burton is not really in the second book – Mark Twain is the main character in that – and I will miss his practicality and him in general. Can’t wait to start on the second book “The Fabulous Riverboat.”

I did some more holiday shopping in the evening. For Bear’s Mom and sister, mostly. Bear and I are getting join presents that they asked for but it felt weird not to actually go and pick something myself so I did get a little bit extra. So I got some baths and candle stuff and a neck pillow thing. Then I spent some time wrapping all the presents since I needed to wrap Mama’s birthday presents for tomorrow. She gets her birthday presents under the tree.

I was listening to my iTunes Christmas album that they gave out for free last year and it finally occurred to me to check out the band that sings my favorite song on that. The song is “A Snowflake Fell (And It Fell Like a Kiss)” by Glasvegas. I really liked their 2008 album based on samples and I think I might buy it.

I have one Invite code if anybody needs it.

This morning we packed and got ready to leave Montauk. As became our custom we had a pancake breakfast at one of the diners there before heading back. I think I overloaded on syrup.

The trip back actually passed really fast, there wasn’t much traffic. It was a really nice vacation and a break from everything. I wish we could have stayed a bit longer.

I’m about half way through the first Riverworld book and while some of the prose is stilted I know already that I will end up reading all five books of the series. I just love the concept. And I’m getting obsessed with the historical characters. I want to read some of the exploration books that Richard Francis Burton wrote (they are in the public domain, so once I get to that it will be easy to get at least).

“The Kids Are All Right”. Because this movie got all this hype I was expecting more of it. It dragged a bit in the middle but I did like it. It was a nice movie but it was not something I would watch more than once.

I don’t remember most returning villains in “Burn Notice” and always have to look them up to see what they did before. I knew the villain in the last episode was on the show but I didn’t remember when.

I graded my finals, now I just need to finish grading all the papers tomorrow. I put on Gregorian chants as the background grading music today. Then I discovered a Sarah McLachlan CD I forgot I had, with some good cover songs.

I started reading Philip Jose Farmer’s “To Your Scattered Bodies Go.” I like it so far. It is a bit coincidental that the first 20th-21st century person Burton meets is a fan who read all his writings and can even quote from it. Burton is an interesting character, though and I really like the concept of this book and thinking though how people would react to being resurrected and having to survive somewhere strange.

I’ve been working on my HL fanfic every night this week for a least an hour without exception. This is definitely the longest fiction writing I ever done. It is already more than thirteen pages. I’m almost done. I think there is just one more section left and then proofreading. I just wanted to see if I could finish it. It is not brilliant writing but I just like putting it down on paper.

I ordered photos this afternoon, since I do keep an album of actual physical photos and about once every six month I pick a few photos to go in it. York photos, which I use, had a discount too, so yay.

Today was grading day so I was grading and avoiding it (it is such a bad habit but I can’t help it) by watching random TV. Today it were three episodes of Six Feet Under (Season 1 Episode 5-7). I like that show, but I like “True Blood” and “Dexter” much more. Still, it is entertaining

I wrapped Papa’s presents and put them out on the kitchen table for tomorrow. In our family, we open presents in the morning of one’s birthday whether others are up yet or not. I got him three books (“Riverworld,” “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and “Bielski Brothers” (a history book about WWII Jewish guerillas in Belarus) and one movie (“Raising Arizona” - he adores the Cohen brothers). I got Farmer’s “Riverworld” (the first two books of the series in one volume) because I wanted to read that as well ever since I saw the Syfy channel movie.
