I don’t go on the internet until after 6pm now and seeing the headline about Congresswoman Giffords being shot at a rally was startling. I hope she pulls through.
I’m glad I figured out last night what caused iTunes to get blank and I’m very happy that internet had the answers on how to fix it. I spent the morning transferring all my music from folders to the library and then I bought “Glasvegas.” It sucks that I lost all the play counts, and this was frustrating and annoying but at least I didn’t actually lose the music. And knowing why this happened actually helps a lot. I was very cranky last night.
More Sherlock Holmes today. I finished “A Study in Scarlet” and I watched the first of the Russian Sherlock Holmes TV movies “Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson” – well, one hour episode. These episodes were made from 1979 to 1986 and I grew up on them. I haven’t seen any in a while. When I think of the characters, these actors are who I always picture. The music from this show is really famous – it is quintessential Sherlock music to me. The first half was based on “Study in Scarlet” and their initial meeting and Watson being suspicious of what Holmes does. It was really funny, I don’t remember all this humor. Watson is adorable in this. The second half was based on a different case. Russian tv channel is going to run these on weekends so that should be fun. There are eleven episodes overall. The only one I vividly remember is “The Hound of the Baskervilles.”
The book, “A Study in Scarlet,” was really fun to read. I didn’t realize that fully a third of it was not Watson narration but the background to the murder and the motivation for the killer. I love the language of it – nineteenth century English literature does have such a lovely prose. When we first meet Holmes he a little more geeky than I expected. I don’t know when I will read the rest with my busy semester but I certainly want to read more.
This afternoon I proofed my Harry Potter story so I could post it tonight (just when it was January 9 in England, since I wrote it for Snape’s birthday, and yes, I know just how geeky that is). When I decided in December that this year I want to do more writing and do one story a month, I wanted to do a Snape story for January because of the birthday. And then I remembered the Christmas conversation between Lupin and Harry in Book 6 where Lupin defends Snape to Harry and mention that they might not be friends but he still trust him. So I wanted to write a story with Lupin and Snape and maybe get them to be friends a little bit. And then I started writing it in the last week of December and I wrote it from Lupin’s perspective. So it ended up more a story about Lupin. And it flowed really well since I kept hearing in my head all the things they would talk about. I finished it right before the new year. Now, for February, I will try a Janeway/Chakotay story since I love them and February calls for romance.
One of my friends has an Etsy shop where she sells the jewelry she makes. She makes these beautiful pearl bracelets of different colors for a cancer charity. I bought one for Bear’s Mom a while ago. I’m going to buy one this year in deep purple color in honor of my dad.
Exercise: 30 minute walk with nice falling snow
Cross-stitch: orange, blue and yellow – I love different colors.
