Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it! (I know I’m actually posting this late and on Monday but it has been a busy long weekend ).

Most of the Thanksgiving day was pretty low key. We watched a little of the Parade on TV with breakfast and a little Best in Show too. Right as we were ready to eat lunch – and Bear made me a great salmon sandwich – we also watched the World Championship for men gymnastics - the high bar. Good TV. And then I made the mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving meal while Bear make stuffing and his sister periodically came to check on the turkey. I love making mashed potatoes and I made a huge pot for a whole bag of potatoes. I think I used a stick of butter and lots of skim milk – they came out great.

Then Bear’s parents came home to watch the turkey and the three of us went to visit Bear’s Grandma. I brought my laptop and we ended up watching old home movies.

Bear’s brother and his girlfriend also came to dinner and we had a huge Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and stuffing and mashed potatoes and yams and spinach and corn and peas and pies. Lots and lots of food. My cranberry muffin bread came out really well this year, yay.

After that huge dinner, Bear and I took a walk to buy milk and settle the food. At one point I looked up and there were many stars in the sky, which I don’t get to see much. It was just lovely.

We started to watch “Pirates 4” in the evening but I kept falling asleep – the plot was not intriguing at all. Many shots done only for 3D and were distracting and inorganic. And many action sequences were there because it was time to have an action sequence, not because it suited the story. So I started to fall asleep instead. And I am not really curious were the plot was going. Not even Johnny Depp could save it for me.

Today was my day for finishing movies that have been on my shelf/floor for a while and that I really need to give back to Bear. I think I had his copy of X-Men 2 since last year. I do love that movie and it is always good no matter how many times I watch it. I just wanted to watch it again since last year because I realized Peter Wingfield was in it. It was also interesting to watch keeping the context of X-Men: First Class in mind. I also watched the part of the third Pirates movie that I missed by falling asleep a few weeks ago – I slept through all of climactic action sequences apparently.

Bear came over in late afternoon and he took me rollerblading. I need to go more; my body was tired too soon. I wish I could just go and not rely on other people to take me to that beach road. Still, it was fun. Then we came home and I cooked mashed potatoes and zucchini/pepper/onion stir fry for dinner. There was already chicken in the fridge. Bear’s Mom sent over brownies so that was our desert. When I’m in the house by myself I don’t really want to do much but I like cooking for other people and I’m always more productive like in washing dishes or chores if there is someone else to care for.

The reason Bear came over today specifically was because of fireworks and concert our borough president sponsors every summer. We drove over to the park, found parking 15 minutes away – which is pretty good since it gets really crowded and had a really nice evening. We decided to watch the fireworks from the beach this time, not the lawn, and it was better. The fireworks were clearer and there were fewer people around but we could still hear the music from the concert. It was Bee-Gees covers this year, which was entertaining. We had ice-cream when we got home and it was a really great evening.

I packed in the morning. It really did not take that long. I’m just taking a medium size suitcase and a backpack. I’m going to 90F degree weather – I really don’t need that many clothes. Lots and lots of tank tops.

Bear came over after 5 so we could go to the beach fair today. Every summer my local beach has two weekends of beach fair. There is a really good jewelry maker who makes awesome anklets. I got blue and purple last summer. This time Bear got me a pink one and a white and blue one made from shells. I love my ankle bracelets. We also got some summer food like sausage and peppers and teriaki.

In the evening, we watched the third Pirate movie. Well, I watched most of it, I fell asleep for a little bit in the last third of it but I woke up for the ending. I was just very tired. I will need to rewatch that next week. We went to sleep after 12:30 because the movie was a little long – we need to get up a 6:30 tomorrow to get to the airport.

It’s 22 of May and the weather thinks its early April or something. Yesterday we had some inkling of the summer weather – I even put on my ankle bracelet that I wear in the summer – but today it was back to depressing skies, cold wind and a jacket. Can it stop raining/being gloomy and start being actual summer.

Bear and I had a nice quiet Sunday today. We went to the Indian place for their awesome lunch buffet and went rollerblading too. It was a bit chilly but I really just wanted to go, I miss roller blading by the beach. My legs were all tired after half an hour; I need to train myself again. Then we went to the frozen yogurt place – another one near my house and got a nice mix of flavors. I liked the mango one since it was nice and tart.

We are thinking of seeing the new Pirates movie but since I can barely remember the last two, we decided to rewatch the first three before heading to the movie theater. So first Pirate movie tonight. I was cross stitching during some of it but it was just as awesome as I remember. This movie came out the summer I taught my first class and my roommate drove us to the movie theater as the celebration for the end of class. We decided to see it but were really not expecting the awesomeness. Watching it this time made me really appreciate Norrington. I always liked him but more in the later movies; it was fun to really like him here.

Papa left his kindle at home when he left for vacation yesterday so that I can read “Hunger Games” while he is travelling. I re-read the first chapter and read the second one and I did not want to put it down. This hasn’t happened for a while with a book. I have a feeling I will read it quickly. It will be my reward next week for writing my dissertation during the day.

Cross-stitch: backstitch for the book and a little for middle bear.
