“Bit of Fry and Laurie” Finished ep 1 and watched ep2. I like how they turn the sketches on their heads often and change direction. I think I love English humor because it depends on language so much and puns too. And silliness. And snarkiness. And mocking. But mostly language. I am so glad that I got to be fluent in English to catch all subtleties, although I’m not as proficient, of course, in strictly English slang (as opposed to American one). Still, English humor feels as much home to me as Russian humor (which very much depends on context and which I found many Americans just don’t get).

Tomorrow is Bear and mine’s twelve year dating anniversary. We met the second day of college orientation our freshman year and after a week of circling each other, we started dating on Labor Day weekend. I count our anniversary from the time he asked to hold my hand since that was an unambiguous sign of his interest. (We were eighteen and very innocent and very young). But the whole Labor Day weekend was full of events like watching “Princess Bride” in a crowded college dorm and Bear putting his arm around me. (I had to rewatch the movie later in the year since I really was not paying attention to it.) Since then for our anniversary we usually go out to dinner, which he pays for, and he gives me one red rose. This year it was up to Bear to plan on own anniversary date.

So today was our anniversary celebration date. Bear came over around lunchtime as usual with my pretty rose and then we had lunch at home before going on our date. He took me to the botanical gardens about thirty minutes away from my house. I never been there but I did always want to see it. The weather was perfect – all blue skies. And we spent more than two hours just walking around the gardens. There was a white garden which was filled only with white flowers. And there was a greenhouse with bamboo and a small pond full of little red fishies. And some mosquitoes who do like eating Bear ankles. We also saw a large wedding party who were using the gardens for their wedding later and there were way too many bridesmaids in non that pleasant red/purple dress color. The bride wore shoes that matched those bridesmaid dresses and that was weird.

After we left the gardens, it was still early for dinner, so we drove my beach where we walked a bit until dinner. Then we went to have some Indian food at the restaurant near me we both like a lot. I got a cocktail, since it was a celebration after all (Bear never drinks alcohol). I had a “Tsunami” which was a combination of three types of rum. It was very delicious. (I think I prefer rum in my alcoholic choices not just because I like the taste – and I do – but also because one of the fictional characters in my favorite adventure books as a child liked it.)

We ended our evening by watching “Black Adder Goes Forth” (now on Netflix Instant Play) and some snuggling. I really can’t believe it has been twelve years, it really seems like yesterday.
