bearshortyToday I actually got out of the house and stayed away from the computer and tv, especially in the afternoon.
Bear came over today and we went to the end of summer beach fair and then to see fireworks.
I wanted to go to the bank too, but it was closed. So we went back home to get water and then went to the beach for the fair. First we both got a giant Italian sausage with pepper and onions and ate it but the turtle fountain, while from the main stage came the sound of the kid’s show. I was hot but not overly so. Definitely much better than at the fair in June.
Then we got ice-cream (mixed cone with chocolate sprinkles for me, vanilla cone with rainbow sprinkles for Bear) and walked along the stalls. I wanted to get another ankle bracelet – purple this time. I also got a eye necklace for Papa to hang at his work against evil eye. Bear looked for a bit among anklets to see if he liked any to buy me but couldn’t decide on one. We also looked at the t-shirts but I couldn’t find the one I liked in June.
After looking at all the stalls, we walked back toward the fishing pier. That was a nice walk. We saw a cruise ship leaving Manhattan and were remembering how much we liked the Bahamas cruise we went on two years ago. We decided to go on another cruise next year. Marianna brought that idea up too, when we were in New Hampshire. I think for next year, we’ll try to organize a group trip.
On the way back to the car, we ran into my parents who were buying breads and peanut butter cookies.
After we had dinner at home, Bear and I made our way back to the beach for the fireworks. It got dark by this time, and the parking lots near the beach where we usually park are on the federal park land that technically closes after dark. But, of course, it was full of cars because of the fair and impending fireworks. As we pulled in, we saw a cop writing tickets. The main beach parking lots are about ten minutes away by car and people who park there live in a different area, generally. There was no coordination between borough and federal authorities about the fireworks and parking in this federal park land. Hence, the tickets. I bet many people were pissed. We did ask the cop about the tickets he was writing and went to park elsewhere so we avoided the ticket. We did have to walk a bit to get to the beach, and missed the very beginning of the fireworks. Still, it was a nice view to watch fireworks on the beach. I took a few pictures with my new camera. It was nice to be outside enjoying summer today.
