My grandparents came to visit today in the afternoon. It is a rare occasion for them to come here, usually we visit them. I showed my grandfather all the Minsk pictures on my computer.
Damn it, Hawaii 5-0, just when I think I don’t want to see any new shows in the upcoming TV season, you lure me in with pretty locations and James Marsters . Now I will have to watch the pilot.
“Highlander” When the writers try to deliberately copy a famous piece of literature (like Hunchback or Phantom or in S2E3 Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) they make a very boring episode. Writers, try being more original. My God, that was one terrible episode. And the dialogue was sometimes so cheesy. I also find it funny, this season in general that Duncan’s fighting style has changed. He is doing more kung-fu moves especially with his hands, while in the first season it was mostly swords.
I was stalling watching these episodes of season 2 (Episode 3 and 4) because I knew that they end with Tessa’s death and I was not looking forward to that. I think this season is really exploring what it means to be an Immortal – loosing purpose in a long life in Episode 2, and now death. And rebirth with Richie. I always knew Richie is an Immortal so this development isn’t a shock in any way, I’m fairly spoiled, but I am looking forward to that storyline very much. I do regret that Tessa won’t be there anymore. (I know it was the actress’ choice, but I will miss the character.) She continued to be awesome even here, with her escape attempt. And they got engaged and were happy. Duncan’s grief at the end was very touching.
SYTYCD Top 7 Perform.
Well, it was actually Top 6, since Ashley is injured this week and is sidelined. Every week this summer. Really, is there point to voting? It took me awhile to remember who is still in the competition – this season is not that memorable. I’m not even inspired to actually vote, like I did in the last two seasons. Seasons 3 and 4 still hold my heart. There are a lot of new choreographers, which is really wonderful. Cat with a ‘sex bomb’ was cute. And Cat dancing with the contestants was also great.
Dancers with All-Stars:
Lauren (and Mark) – Tahitian dance. Very usual and interesting. Nice hips. Mark is awesome as usual. Keep bringing on new styles, show. Well done.
Adechike (and Anya) – Salsa. I had déjà-vu during rehearsal footage for some reason. Weird. Salsa. The dance was ok, I guess. It looked like a regular salsa. The choreography was a bit hard, which is actually nice to see. The lime green costumes were horrible, costume department. The judges went easy on Adechike last week since the backlash last week. (He was relived).
Jose (and Courtney) – Broadway. The dance is set to “Mr. Cellophane” from “Chicago” which always gets the biggest ovation on stage (I love that song). This dance did not achieve that greatness. Courtney’s role is just to stand there, basically, in this choreography. The judges, for once, were hard on him because of the lack of technique. Adam actually gave him some constructive advice.
Robert (and Alison) – contemporary. Travis made a dance about his Mom (she was having surgery). So the song was to Coldplay’s “Fix You” and it ended on such a wonderful note of Robert carrying Alison on his feet as they were stepping forward. It was very lovely and Robert did a marvelous job. Mia cried and even Cat got choked up.
Billy (and Anya) – Jive. Competition dance too. Set to Meatloaf! That was awesome! Billy’s legs were amazing. Those kicks. I certainly had fun watching it. And there was chemistry.
Kent (and Neil) – Broadway again. Tyce’s routine about baseball players. (Really, Tyce?) I don’t really like baseball, so the routine was doing nothing for me. I did like Kent’s arabesques. The judges tell me that this routine was very difficult and I guess, because the dancers made it look easy, they succeeded. Mia loves boys and boys’ dancing.
Dancers with each other (except Jose):
Lauren and Billy – Mandy’s Moore’s jazz. Two shoes meet up and want to boogie. That’s the concept. This is a great episode for both Billy and Lauren. He was just having a good time. Very cute routine.
Jose (Dominic) – really, show, a b-boy routine for your only b-boy contestant that has been slammed for lack of technique in the forums and adored by the judges? And then you want to claim that the selection is random? Legacy was there to practice! The dance was about b-boy knights ending with Jose pulling a sword from the stone! Hee. That was fun to watch, certainly a unusual dance full of cool tricks. And Nigel – how did Jose redeem himself, if he is dancing in his own style? He still can’t pull anything else off. And Nigel – you are really enjoying boy dances and you are glad that this can happen? Wow. You might as well do a whole season with just boys.
Adechike and Kent – contemporary. I’m sorry, but if you never done a contemporary choreography for two guys, the way to go about it is not to put two chairs on the stage to represent ‘disappeared women.’ Personally, I was offended at that. The movement and dancing was nice and pretty but the concept so pulled me out that I could not enjoy it.
Robert (and Kathryn)– disco. That pretty much says it all. It was alright. I just don’t care that much.
The judges comments tonight really make me mad about the lack of girls this season because of all this over praise for ‘male dancing.’
Favorite routines: Robert, Billy (both dances), Lauren (both dances) – which are really four dances.
My bottom two: Jose, Adechike
