I went to campus today for the library and general lack of distraction from working at home. In fact, I got so into what I was working on that I didn’t want to stop for lunch. I actually made myself go to lunch and even at lunch pulled out some papers. I’m hoping to keep this momentum for whole of summer.

In the morning I met up with Medusa for breakfast at my favorite breakfast diner. I got a Belgian waffle with fruit because I haven’t had that in a while. It was pretty good but, I think, after having oatmeal or bagels or eggs for breakfast for a long time, I actually rather have a proper, not too sugary breakfast next time.

I talked to a few people in the department and showed some Minsk pictures.

Mama still can’t be alone, so she drove me to campus before work and she picked me up at 3. I wish I could do a whole day at school more consistently, but it is not going to happen right now.

SYTYCD. Top 9 compete. I’m typing comments as I watch, only pausing to watch the dance.

6 boys and 3 girls – “These are the girls” looks woefully small. Yay for same sex dancing, even if it just hip-hop for now! They are acting, though, like it is the most radical thing ever.

Dave Scott’s Hip-hop - Adechike (Lauren) –two nerds are transformed into hot people through the power of hip-hop. It is the first time I liked Adechike because he was having so much fun and played a character really well. It was a fun dance.

Dee Caspary’s Contemporary - Ashley (Ade) – a dance on disability? I’m not sure about the story here but the dance has a very pretty lines. Ashley is doing contemporary again but I don’t mind. Both dancers were really good and Ade didn’t outdance her. The judges always exaggerate when they call it the best ever of something.

Sonya Tayeh’s jazz - Robert (Courtney) – I didn’t really like the dance. Usually I like Sonya’s stuff but not this time. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either. I guess Robert danced well? I just didn’t care. I really didn’t like the choking (Mia seemed to like it way too much).

Fabian Sanchez’s salsa - Melinda (Pasha) – Melinda said she is Columbian and she grew up with salsa but that did not look comfortable. Pasha so outdanced her. She was awkward in places. (she did handle dress in a shoe well). Nigel pointed out her lack of musicality, and I think he is right. Mia actually said that they made a mistake to let Christina go (And Adam rewatched last week’s show again and agreed that they made a mistake too). Wow, that is a bit harsh there. (I do agree with them). If she is in the bottom three, and she will be, she is going home.

Joey Dowling’s Broadway - Lauren (Neil) – That was really nice! Lauren was really sexy. I don’t think the dress was supposed to do that but I didn’t realize it until the judges pointed it out. And they played it off well. I only really noticed it on the second watch, really. I enjoyed it. Lauren looked like a woman in the 40s – although Mia doesn’t find that body type too sexy there and wanted her to be sexier (boo, Mia).

Stacey Tookey’s contemporary - Billy (Kathryn) – choreography and music were really wonderful. Kathryn is such a wonderful dancer. Billy matched her nicely. He could have connected a bit more. Nigel thinks he needs to work on partnership more.

Dmitry’s samba - Jose (Anya) – this was pretty decent. Jose as usual is having fun with it even if technically he is not that proficient.

Mandy Moore’s jazz - Kent (Allison) – Kent has to be a man again. He has the same problem that Ivan had many seasons ago. I’m not a fan of Mandy Moore’s choices of songs and style. He does not look like a man yet. And he is pulling too many faces. Not a fan this week.

NapTab’s hip-hop - Alex (Twitch) – he should really be out of this element being a ballet dancer. My favorite routine of the night! That was so much fun! And Alex – how did you do that! You are a ballet dancer. Standing ovation. Twitch is a psychologist and Alex played his patient – and Twitch was trying to take the ballet out of him and teach him some hip-hop but ends up learning some ballet too. I will so rewatch it. Alex looked like he always did hip hop. He kept up with Twitch!

Solos:

Billy – that kid is so flexible! Awesome, very creative solo, it will definitely stick in mind.
Jose – nice head spin, but I’ve seen better breakers.
Kent – its contemporary, so lots of flailing, but I will forget it in five minutes.
Alex – I liked the little ballet jumps he threw it there.
Ashley - that was so ordinary
Robert – all these contemporary solos look the same. I like how he uses his feet.
Melinda – it’s tap.
Adechike – ok, he won me over today. That was beautiful.
Lauren – she definitely most interesting of the girls to me.

Favorite tonight: Alex, Adechike and Lauren
Bottom three for me are: Melinda, Robert, Kent. Melinda is going home.

Hollywood is too incestuous - connecting actors who played vampires through sex.

Highlander S1E6 “Bad Day in Building A.” That was a ready good episode, to my surprise, part “die hard” and part horror movie. MacLeod was pissed and very angsty. Tessa continues to impress me as a character.
