“Sex and the City 2” I went to see it with Yeva tonight for a girls night out. And I loved it! I was not expecting much because of the reviews but I really enjoyed it. I don’t watch a movie like this because of a plot but I liked this movie even more than the first one in its storyline. I like spending scene where the characters just talk, or the ridiculously over the top gay wedding (which was very sweet in many ways), because it’s just fun and enjoyable and I can have a really good time and leave the theater with a good felling.

I think I like these movies (and the series) because I like the characters and they just seem so human and real to me. And I just love the relationships in this movie, the relationships between the women, certainly, but also to my surprise, Big and Carrie’s marriage where they actually act like adults and talk everything out and allow for their own rules and ideas. And they realize they don’t want kids and stick to that too. In the series, I never liked Carries and Big together because that type of guy always grates but for the first time I actually liked them and their interactions. And I liked the acknowledgment, even for a gay couple, that not everyone wants a monogamous relationship while still really loving each other – I was not expecting this and that rocked. There was an emphasis that everyone’s marriage is different and everyone should just figure it out for themselves. And all the male reviewers who panned it – you suck. And I like seeing a movie with four female characters who are in their 40s and 50s.

And yes, I get why some critics were offended at the portrayal of the Middle East, but really, the characters from the backgrounds of these characters would be fascinated and questioning and not exactly PC about the trip. I found these things very realistic – like Charlotte using her maiden name since she realized that having a Jewish name in the Middle East might cause issues. And the girls wondering how women functioned with a burka. We had a fun time at the movies.

I had a familiar argument with Papa when he still came to pick me up at the bus stop at 10:30 even though I told him not too. I saw his car go past me as I was walking from the bus and I called him to tell him to drive home. I didn’t get into the car, I walked home and he sort of rode along. I’m tired of this argument and I’m trying to be more firm about it.
