Jun. 11th, 2010 11:00 pmToday I had a great day in the city. I woke up later than I wanted to and had to rush a bit to leave by 10 so that I could meet up with Medusa in Manhattan. We wanted to find a nice Indian place to eat on the Upper East , close enough to the Met, and she found a place on the internet. We caught the F train and wanted to transfer to the green line on Lexington and discovered that the 63th street transfer is very confusing and the station is very deep. There were no signs anywhere to tell us where we needed to go until we went up three escalators. Then, by the exit, there was a small sign that said we should walk street level to 60th street and the transfer will happen automatically. For all the years I lived in the city, I’ve never been to this station before and it was just weird.
We did find the Indian place and we had a really nice lunch where I got a vegetarian entry. I am weary of eggplant in Indian and Thai now, since they make it too salty, usually, so I got lentils. Overall, lunch was delicious. Then we went to the Met. I haven’t been there in ages, even though it is my favorite art museum, especially because I can only pay a dollar. I love that their price is ‘suggested.’ We went to the Egypt wing first (I love that Temple and we also saw King Tut’s burial materials – I don’t think I saw that kind of detail before). We also walked in American wing with all the old household appliances and paintings and clocks and to the house reproduction I really like. We saw Picasso exhibition, which was cool, and it had a room full of drawings that are really porn, but in the museum they are art. I tried to find a postcard of ‘a girl reading’ painting, but I couldn’t find it. We also went to see manuscripts. Medusa goes through museums faster than me, which I did not think was possible. When I go with Bear, he always looks at paintings much more deliberately, and I always think I’m looking at them too fast, but I guess not.
After the Met we went to Central Park. There is nothing quite like relaxing on the grass in the Great Lawn. It was such a nice day for it too. Then we walked all the way to mid-town. Somehow, I can walk great distances in the city, without realizing just how much I’m walking.
I went to dinner with Yeva, Marianna and Bear. Marianna got the cutest haircut – it is shorter and it really suits her. She gave me coasters where you can put people’s photos in as a present. We went to a Thai place where the waitresses were a bit scatterbrained, but the atmosphere was very nice. I got green curry, but it was a little too spicy for me. I ate it slowly and stole lots of pad thai off Bear’s and Yeva’s plates. Adama joined us a little later. We had fried banana’s for desert. And had lots of fun discussions. And the dinner, like lunch, was my birthday treat, which I really appreciate.
After dinner, Bear and I walked all the way to Penn Station (my feet were tired by that point, I can’t believe how much I walked today) to catch a train to Bear’s house – I read a bit, and then napped using Bear as a pillow, since it was pretty late by then. At one point, I looked up to see Bear looking at me with a very amused and loving look on his face. Apparently he found it very cute.
