10 Iyar/24 April, 2010
Apr. 24th, 2010 11:00 pmA nice mild Saturday.
I started “Dune”. I need to turn off my overanalytical brain for it because gender stuff is already bugging me. I mean a female order, a supposedly pretty powerful one as well, needs a man to access the masculine and feminine truth and they can’t because even the best of them can only see feminine when taking a certain drug. Paul will be the The One. I keep reminding myself that this book was written in the 60s by a man. I suspect I will read this book slowly.
Did more cross stitch. I really like this postcards/butterfly project, the colors are nice and muted and it is mostly half stitch.
I’m not a fan of Wes Anderson movies. I didn’t enjoy “Fantastic Mr Fox” as much as I thought I would based on the reviews. Plus gender roles of the characters bothered me, with the wife fox just being concerned with the home (and yes, I know it is an old children’s story, but still). Dumbledore voice was distracting. And the dry line delivery was getting on my nerves. And I was just really bored watching it.
I rented the cottage in New Hampshire for late July for our group trip. There was a bit of drama trying to get everyone to agree – it is harder to plan when more than two people are going on the trip. Finally I made an executive decision, since I found the place, and put in a deposit. Luckily everyone was on board with my decision. The lady who processed the reservation was very nice until the mildly offensive comment at the end about me being very clear despite my accent. She seemed to realize as she was saying that this was foot-in-mouth comment. So I let it pass.
Doctor Who S5E2 “Beast Below” Amy didn’t know the Doctor long enough to get the parallel at the end to fix things. That would be more of a story of later season. I still like the Doctor and I’m getting used to Amy. The story was all right. Not the best this show is capable off.
I just saw some of the Weeping Angel episodes’ trailer and that is the scariest monster.
