I spent the morning in Brooklyn before I finally took the bus home after 12:30. I had scrambled egg for breakfast which made me happy. We don’t usually have milk in our house, since we don’t eat cereal and don’t drink milk on regular basis. So I took advantage of staying in a place with milk and made myself a scrambled egg. Mostly, I kept Yeva company while she did her laundry and we began to think about the New Hampshire trip. Yeva had a general guidebook and a atlas so we came up with approximate places we wanted to go to. Mostly we’ll do nature stuff, although Marianna nixed the camping idea. Still there are mountains and waterfalls and nature and a lake so it should be pretty.
The weather is so pretty and warm and the sun is shining. It is a good day.
Stephen Moffat knows how to write the creepy really well. I just had to watch the new “Doctor Who” online today. I’m not waiting for the American broadcast, I really prefer BBC version. The beginning of the episode rocked with some creepiness. Panning past the door and realizing it is now slightly ajar and panning again and the door is open more was really freaky and made me pause the show for a minute. The rest of the show wasn’t really as crazy but those first five minutes really made the episode for me. The little girl Amelia was really good as a character and I wish the little girl actress could have been the companion – she was awesome. The adult version of Amelia is still a bit an unknown quantity. But then I don’t expect anyone to surpass Donna for awesomeness. Eleven is doing a good job in bringing in crazy, since the Doctor is often crazy. He is not as gleeful as Ten about things, but he is the Doctor. But not angsty in any way – I think the timelord storyline is truly over. And I really liked the sequence of faces of all the Doctors with Eleven emerging in the end. “Basically...run” – excellent quote. Tardis is now orangy and sonic screwdriver is now green. I don’t know how I feel about that. And pornography joke! This is not Moffat’s best story as creepiness is present only in the first act, but it is an introduction to new characters, so I’ll reserve judgment for the season. I did like this first episode and I liked Eleven very much so I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.
Pacific Episode 4. A look at the psychological toll on the soldiers fighting in non-ending rain and mud and jungle through the eyes of Leckie. This episode passed by really fast and was very well acted. Still enjoying it; it is something different from my regular TV.
