Disney movie messages
The phone rang in the afternoon and a person claiming to be from DEP (New York Water department) wanted to make an appointment to change a water meter to a new technologically improved one that will broadcast water readings on low radio frequency. Mama wanted to make sure that the call actually came from DEP and not some random dudes, so I went online, found DEP numbers and called them. After being passed around to various people and given several different phone numbers we finally heard that there was no appointment in their system. So we *69 the last call and called the people who made the appointment. Who turned out to be a company that was contracted out by DEP to do this replacement job (which I could confirm online and from their phone number). The whole run around was just annoying. But the most creepy thing is that the new water meter, while promising to give actual readings and eliminate anyone coming to the house to read the water meter, will actually transit our water use four times a day to the city. That way ‘they can monitor any leaks.’ It is not really comforting knowing that the government can tell just how much water we are using when. Big Brother creepy.
