I kept a list this year to keep track of the movies I watched. I didn't watch too many - mostly for lack of time and partly because there weren't too many I wanted to watch. Here is my list and then I will do some comments on the movies, especially on latest ones.

1. Inside Out (Dec 31-Jan 1)
2. Avengers: The Age of Ultron (Jan 6)
3. Mad Max: Fury Road (Jan 16-17)
4. The Martian (Feb 6-Feb 7)
5. Kingsman (Feb 19-20)
6. Furious 7 (Apr 1)
7. X-Men: Apocalypse (June 12) – movie theater
8. Deadpool (June 25-26)
9. Spotlight (July 6)
10. Ant-man (July 9-10)
11. The Big Short (July 18-19)
12. Minions (July 31, Aug 2, Aug 4)
13. Theory of Everything (Aug 22-23)
14. Zootopia (Nov 20)
15. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 (Dec 22—23)
16. Captain America: Civil War (Dec 16)

1. Inside Out - very good. Made me cry. Definitely one of the favorites of the year.

2. Avengers: The Age of Ultron - I like the first Avengers more. It was fine.

3. Mad Max: Fury Road - Good movie. I wrote about it before, at the beginning of the year - but lasting impression is of a really great movie.

4. The Martian - I liked this adaptation of the book a lot, as it fleshed out some things in the books - like the crew. And the 70s music works better in the movies. I'm happy I read the book first.

5. Kingsman - Started out really fun but it got too violent for me at the end. I don't think I can watch the sequel. But I can see what the fuss is about.

6. Furious 7 - very typical Fast and Furious movie. I liked the end tribute to Paul Walker it made me tear up. I don't watch these movies for plot though.

7. X-Men: Apocalypse – movie theater - this was the only movie I ended up watching in the movie theater - we were in Florida on vacation. I don't regret watching it and I had a good time while watching it but it certainly doesn't stand up to any analysis. And can movies stop killing wives/children for male character development, please. Just stop it.

8. Deadpool -my second favorite superhero movie of the year (behind Ant-Man, which slightly edges it for me). Loved the humor and irreverence and some trope subversion. Definitely fun.

9. Spotlight - I can see why this movie won an Oscar. The story was compelling, even though an investigation and asking questions shouldn't be that compelling. But even with the hard subject matter, it managed to make the investigation extremely interesting. Good movie, for sure.

10. Ant-man - I had a lot of fun watching this movie. Out of the three Marvel movies and two X-Men universe movies I saw this year, this was probably my favorite. It knew when to poke fun at itself.

11. The Big Short - I think this movie, surprisingly, ended up my favorite this year. It really tried explain all the financial stuff, making me feel a little smarter and also, it made the audience properly horrified at the banks. Definitely gripping. Yay, Netflix for having it.

12. Minions - It was fine. A little boring at times - not as good as "Despicable" movies but ok enough to watch while I was on my exercise bike.

13. Theory of Everything - It was a good movie but as with any "biographies" one wonders how much was exaggerated/made up. Interesting enough though and I'm glad I saw it.

14. Zootopia - very cute, nice plot. I enjoyed it and I'm glad Netflix had it. Not much to say though that hasn't been said.

15. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 - Lots of fun and joy watching this one. I can see why many panned the sequel, but this was not meant to be great cinema. It was just fun to spend time with these characters again, it was funny enough and it just felt like comfort foot. We just had a good time watching it on date nights.

16. Captain America: Civil War - I had expectations of this one and, while I liked it enough, especially the end, I was in the end disappointed by it. The first action scene was already boring me. I might be getting superheroed out. It just this movie seems to exist because someone thought "wouldn't it be cool to see Captain America fight Iron Man. Who would win" and they wrote the story around it. The main bad guys' vengeance plot just didn't made sense - it depended on so many contingencies and a knowledge that Captain America would pick Bucky over anyone, which doesn't seem very sound. I did like the team fighting each other scenes - mostly for Spiderman and Ant-man - the humor worked there. But when Rhodes got hurt and Iron Man got so outraged - like what did he think would happen? No one would get hurt or killed at all? And the movie does expect you to keep all the Marvel movies in mind and there are so many of them. I didn't even remembered that Hawkeye was supposed to be retired and I watched that movie in January. So the movie was fine but not as great as I was expecting.
