Oct. 1st, 2009 10:40 pmTeaching day today. We went over paragraph formations and connections. I hope they were getting it. It is always interesting how two different groups process the same lesson plan. Two classes are never the same.
I got lunch at the student center today and to my surprise they had the most delicious cheeseburger and fries. The fries especially were excellent.
“Bones”, tonight, dealt with the Amish. That show has a history of approaching sub-cultures in a very shaky manner. And I’m sure their representation would be eye-rolling to actual Amish. But they managed to present such an interesting and human victim, a boy torn between a choice of home/sweetheart and his gift for a piano, that the show got me very emotionally involved and tearing up by the end. Nice manipulation of emotion there, but it really worked. Booth threatening Cam’s daughter’s boyfriend was also amusing.
Today we got to “Resurrection Ship” episodes of “Battlestar Galactica.” I was looking forward to it because of Adama/Roslin moment when she promotes him to Admiral and he kisses her. I love the fact that it wasn’t a scripted kiss, it was something the actor felt in the moment and felt genuine and romantic and intimate. I am a shipper, I admit it. Part of the reason I decided to give the show another chance was because I knew of their romance and wanted to see it from the beginning. Somehow, to me that kind of relationship, with not exactly a happy ending, with all adversity is fascinating. It is the reason I adore J/C ship on “Voyager”. I think Adama/Roslin remind me of that kind of friendship and intimacy.
