01. Have you ever tried to reconnect with someone from your past, but were unable to find them/get in touch with them?
I'm not that great with staying connected with people, despite wanting to keep in touch with many. But I'm sure it happened that I couldn't find someone.
02. If you had the opportunity to travel to one country or region on every continent, where would you like to go?
North America: More Canada. I lived in Toronto for 6 weeks in 2004 while taking a class and I really liked it. I also visited Montreal and some lakes. I would love to see the west coast of Canada.
South America: Peru. One of my best friends went on the hike there and she came back with amazing stories.
Europe: Prague. It's been a dream for a while. But I would also go to Scotland, if I had the chance.
Asia: I don't have a specific destination I want to visit in Asia but I wouldn't protest traveling there and seeing something new.
Africa: Pyramids would be great to see but not very practical right now with all the problems in the Middle East.
Australia: Great Barrier Reef. And also New Zeeland.
Antarctica: could be fun if I'm really bundled up. I don't like the cold that much.
03. Who was the last person to knock on your door or ring your doorbell?
My Dad on Thursday when he came to pick my Mom up from babysitting and stopped in to drop off blueberries too.
04. Do you believe that the more that you give, the more you will get?
Not really. I think it's good to give but not with expectations of return.
05. What is something you've recently discovered that you're absolutely in love with?
Hamilton. I'm a little obsessed.
06. Have you ever had to go under anesthesia?
Not general anesthesia. I've had local anesthesia for dental work, for a swollen cyst on my neck and for stitches after labor but that's about it.
07. Have you ever kept a blog that you used strictly as a journal?
My blog is pretty much a journal.
08. Are you good at remembering faces?
Yes. I remember faces better than names. When I encounter my former students, I recognize them and even when they were my students but I often can't recall their name.
09. Do you ever put covers on your books?
When I was a child in school we had special book covers for school books. Otherwise, no. I do take off book jackets off the books I'm reading, though.
10. Do you like to receive feedback on things you've made or done?
Yes! Who doesn't?
11. When was the last time you felt you overreacted about something?
I can't remember. I don't think I overreact that much.
12. How often do you chew gum? What's your favorite brand and/or flavor?
I don't. I did as a kid once in a while but I don't really do it now.
13. Do you like watching commentaries on movies or TV shows?
Once in a while. If I get the DVD set I might. Or if I really, really love the movie. I love all Joss Whedon commentaries, though. Those are fun.
14. Do you ever save old magazines or newspapers?
No. I did at some point with magazines but with moving and a small apartment a lot had to go. I did keep the newspaper from the day Tanya was born to show her later. And I try to give away my National Geographics and not just throw them out.
15. Can you take your own advice?
Sometimes.
16. Do you feel obligated to keep up with news/current events?
Not as much as before. I look at the headlines of BBC News every morning and read anything interesting. I stay out of reading about the election, though, because that gets depressing fast. I know who I want to vote for - why bother.
17. Would you prefer to get an "object" gift or an "experience" gift?
Both. I tend to like small gifts like books or music, nothing too elaborate. I would like a little more experience gifts, I think. Bear takes me to a Broadway show every year for my birthday - but I get to pick it.
18. What was the first social network website you joined?
Dreamwidth. Then LJ for a fan fest. Then LinkedIn last year. I never had Facebook because I always had privacy concerns and I didn't want my students to find me on there. And I also find it creepy. They own all the content you put on there - all the pics. I lurk on Tumblr but I don't think I can ever make my own account there since it baffles me at times.
19. Have you ever met someone who looked like you?
Not really. My cousin and I have similar features and I look a lot like my Dad. But not a stranger, I don't think.
20. What is the worst natural disaster you've experienced firsthand?
Hurricane Sandy. It was really strange to walk around after it passed and see all the downed trees, to drive to my Grandparents' on Coney Island and basically drive on sand and walk with the flashlight in their dark staircase. My parents didn't have power for over two weeks and had to come stay with me on the coldest days. Even months later you could see evidence of the storm and all the people affected.

R - Reason to smile: silly toddler laughing and giggling, and my friend Janna just had a baby girl yesterday, a tiny tiny baby named Jacqueline (Jac, for short).
