Supernatural S11 E4 and E5
I really enjoyed both episodes 4 and 5. I don't read many spoilers but I somehow knew there was going to be an episode from the car's perspective. I was wondering how they were going to pull it off but it worked so well. I loved the road trip moments, just driving and singing in the car together and eating and sleeping and driving. Just being brothers. I can watch that all day. And I loved the conversation in the car after Sam's vision. And the fact that Sam didn't hide anything but just told Dean right away about that vision. What got me about the vision with young John was how quiet it was. I didn't realize it until Mark Watches review pointed out that there was no soundtrack to the episode, just songs. The flight in the second half of the episode was also hysterical. I loved 4.
I also really liked 5. Amara is much more interesting as a preteen. I liked this actress a lot. And the implications of losing a soul and how differently it affects people. This episode also switched after the first half from a ghost story to the Darkness story, but that worked so well. I'm enjoying the season so far for sure. And I like the hints as to Darkness' powers so far. But if God banished the Darkness before he created the world and people, why would Amara eat souls, if souls were after her time?
I actually checked out the pilot episode last week and really liked it. I liked it enough to check out the second episode and this show continues to be fun. When I was a teenager, I loved "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" (So seeing Dean Cain as Kara's Earth Dad was awesome) and I think this show is in the same optimistic mode. And that is really nice - I tried "Daredevil" and it was too dark and depressing for me. The trailer for "Jessica Jones" is all edgy too. This optimistic kind of show is the kind of superhero show I prefer. And I like all the characters so far. I love the interactions between everyone and that already 3 people in Kara's life know her secret -so it's not played for suspense. And the Kara trusts her friends. I love that Kara already met her Aunt and it didn't have to wait until the middle of the season. I adore the advice that Cat inadvertently gave Supergirl and Cat in general. There people have conversation and give advice and it's a great philosophy. And that the show is looking at consequences of being a superhero is a funny way. Kara is not good at considering all the consequences yet - she's just learning and it's fun to see. I like her earnestness. I'm going to continue watching.
How are we on Season 5 already? I remember when this show just started. Poor Nick. Being a Grimm really took its toll on him - he is much more...dare I say it...grim. And no wonder, with everything that's happened to him. He was certainly frantic. And much scarier. They seem to be setting up a bit of a game changer with the insurgency or rebellion or whatever. We'll see. I liked the call back from Monroe to how their friendship began and I adore the team working together. I don't think Juliette is dead. This episode was certainly a set up and had to clear a lot of stuff off the board from last season. I think next episode will set up more of a tone.
