First day of school. Always a special day where everything is new and shiny.

I had to get up at 6 and I was on campus by 7am, before most of the school was even open. But I did manage to read the article I needed to on my laptop (yay, free school internet), get my bagel with cream cheese and tea at Dunkin Donuts (although I did not appreciate walking in the freezing cold), and get back to the main office to photocopy gazillion papers for my classes this week. Syllabi, rosters, writing sample, reading guides, etc.

First day of class is always so easy – we go over the syllabus and then the students write the writing sample. In the first class, I was rereading our first essay for next week’s discussion, and in the second class, I looked over and made notes on the writing samples of the first section. The usual range – it is hard for many to read closely.

Right after class I had to go to orientation, since I taught Basic Composition in the Fall, and now I’m doing Expos (which is where students go after they passed Basic Composition). So I had to catch up to any new policies. It was actually very productive and useful, with various teaching suggestions. And Rosemary came to campus especially for it, so she gave me a ride back to Brooklyn. We listened to “Les Mis” soundtrack in the car. I will really miss carpooling with her. I put an add for a new carpool but I don’t think I will find anyone – so train for me, starting Friday.
