For some reason spending half a day of New Year’s Day in my parents’ house, just relaxing, playing with new presents and going for a walk is such a nice feeling. Like a brief pause before the start of the year and any hectic schedule. Plus having holiday food for breakfast and lunch is fun.

My New Year Loot:

Yellow ducky socks (Bear)
Small blue socks with ducks (Bear)
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Part II” soundtrack (Bear)
8 x 10 Photo frame (parents)
$25 iTunes gift card (Papa)
“Sandman: Dream Hunters” by Neil Gaiman (Papa) – last Sandman to read
To the End of the Land by David Grossman (Papa)
Gotye – “Making Mirrors” CD (Papa)
Coins – all English pence from Victoria to Elizabeth (Papa)
Coin book with inserts (Papa)
Towels from Ralph Lauren with my and Bear’s name inscribed (Mama)
New leather bag for work (Mama)
Pyrex dish with Christmas trees setting (Mama)

We did some grocery shopping on the way home and mostly unpacked. I’m reading the new Dresden Files book – and those books flow really easily.

With dinner, Bear and I watched “Dark Knight Rises” which Papa gave Bear as a New Year present. I haven’t seen it before while Bear did watch it in the movie theater. I liked it more than the last one (I really didn’t like “The Dark Knight”, mostly because the women characters seemed more useful and were doing things instead of being simply love interests. And the plot seemed a bit tighter. And I liked Jordon Gordon-Levitt’s character too. So definitely more entertaining for me to watch. Some action stuff, especially in the beginning was a bit unnecessary and I’m handwaving a lot but this movie was certainly an improvement for me over the last one.
