The weather was all over the place today. It was very cold in the morning, in high 40s, the building even turned on the heater this morning. And of all days I had to wear a skirt since I was going to temple this evening for Kol Nidre services. (I’m writing this on Wednesday evening, since one of my person Yom Kippur rules is no writing). Then it warmed up to 70s during the day. Really hard to pick things to wear.
Teaching was easy today since it was just peer review and I could grade more during it. I did have a student come to office hours – it is good to see students to really want to do well, especially this early in the semester.
Papa picked me up at 4 since I was spending Yom Kippur in my parents’ house. It was a little stranger to go back there after work. We got there a bit early so my parents and I went for a walk to the pharmacy and Kmart. In my new wife-role, I wanted to get Bear some socks since his socks are all holey and really old. Boys.
After we had a big dinner where I had soup and stuffed cabbage (which Mama forced me to eat more of than my stomach wanted) and drank two glasses of water, Papa drove me to the Temple for my only Jewish religious service of the year. I was a tiny bit late but I only missed the little bit of Kol Nidre prayer, so it wasn’t too bad. But as I was sitting there, by the end of that prayer and by looking around, I realized that I forgot to pick up women’s head covering by the entrance. It’s only for married women and I never had to do that before. It was strange to realize it. I didn’t go back for it since I didn’t want to walk all the way back but the knowledge was just there. Next time.
