Part 2b More Movies and TV

Since I wrote the last post I truly did not expect to see two more movies in 24 hours. I just thought I would be adding a comment for “Brave.” But on Friday, I emailed Yeva, who is always so busy because of work and school, that if she wants to get distracted we could hang out and maybe see “Magic Mike.” Her relationship of two years just ended a month ago so cheering up was certainly needed. I wasn’t expecting for her to call me to say she took a few days off and has free movie tickets to boot. So, since Papa and I were going to visit my grandparents in Brooklyn anyway after his work, he dropped me off at Yeva’s. Bear picked me up the next day since Brooklyn is on the way to my house. And Yeva and I had a fun girls’ night. I picked up some pizza, we went to the movies and then we went to one of the Sheepshead Bay cafes and had desert and ice-cream and enjoyed a nice summer night. And in the morning I helped set up her printer too – so being all useful.

Then on Saturday, June 30, Bear and I had a fun day too. We went to see “Brave” and in the evening we drove to the park for concert and fireworks on the beach. This was our third year going to this event, and this year it seemed easiest with parking and our beach chairs. We were finally prepared. And Bear got us ice-cream from the trucks, which made it even more summery. I actually don’t mind the heat that’s finally settled over the East Coast – it was nice in the evening.

“Magic Mike” I liked the movie. The movie theater was full – mostly women and a lot of teenage girl. I was fun to hear their reactions like to a naked behind in the very beginning of the movie. I did like the story and plot itself – it was nice and slow build and felt very real and understandable. And the dancing was a hoot. Not just the stripping – although that was great, just the dance routines themselves. And of course, all the pretty boys. The story is dramatic and heavy, this is not fluffy fun – but it was certainly interesting. And there were many funny moments which were great to see in a full theater with lots and lots of fun audience reactions.

“Brave” I adored this movie. It is up there with some of my Pixar favorites. The visuals and animation were stunning – like the light reflecting on the Bear fur. And there were lots of bears, which is a plus for me  But seriously, I loved it because it was not just a story about a girl main character, it was a story about a mother and a daughter. I was not expecting the mother to play such a big role and to turn into that Bear. (The walk as a Bear walking on two legs was hysterical). It is so rare to see a cartoon dealing with mother/daughter relationship in such a good and complicated way. And the climax scene did make me cry too – more than Toy Story 3 too. And even the witch character was going beyond the stereotype – she was not made to be malicious – and her cauldron answering service was really funny. Merida herself was pretty awesome too. The only thing to complain about – could the visiting lords bring any girls or women with them?

True Blood S5E4 Alcide gets even hotter with every episode but he sure did get over Debbie quickly. I like that Pelt storyline was wrapped at least – the parents were annoying in the books. Pam owned the episode again – scenes between her and Eric were so wonderful as usual – they just love each other. And she is turning into a great maker too. Tara’s story is finally interesting after the mess of last year. All the maker stories and relationships are very interesting in story and emotional terms in this show and the trend continues. Thank god, the little kid vampire was the traitor – he was a terrible actor and I’m glad I don’t have to listen to him. Jason at a fairy party – be careful, you can be related.
