Migraines are no fun – nice wind and cold outside is definitely contributing.
I watched “(500) Days of Summer.” I wasn’t sure about this movie in the beginning since the nonlinear structure is sometimes annoying but by the end of the movie I enjoyed the story and I appreciated the non-traditional approach to romantic comedy. We know from the front that this relationship does not have a happy ending which is nice to see. It just is. The story is also told from a guy’s perspective, the main character Tom. He is the hopeless romantic in the situation and that presents a problem. We never really know Summer, the main girl character, that well because she is mostly the object here but that is the purpose. She never lies, at least, and the very few clichés are presents. By the end of the movie I was invested. Music plays a very big part of the movie, all the musical choices are very distinctive.
I watched the Kennedy Center Honors (I didn’t know that Max Brooks author of “World War Z” is Mel Brooks’ son – I found this out through Wikipedia as I was looking up more on the honorees). I always really enjoy this award show because all are very deserving and interesting people. This year’s honorees were Robert de Niro, Mel Brooks, Bruce Springsteen, Grace Bumbry and Dave Brubeck. Bumbry is a famous opera singer “Black Venus” and Brubeck is a jazz musician who pioneered a lot. I really enjoyed tributes to all. Of course, I know Mel Brooks the most and I founds it adorable how he was mouthing the lyrics to his songs while various people sang them on stage. The birthday tribute by Brubeck’s sons was great as was the pure joy in his face. And Jon Stewart’s introduction to Bruce Springsteen had everyone in stitches.
The more I listen to “Battlestar Galactica” soundtrack the more I adore it, especially Season Two. The music itself is evoking even if I don’t often remember the scenes it came from or the motif it evokes. (Some, of course, I easily remember the context). But it is beautiful by itself.
My ringtone always cheering me up now, I changed it to this “crowd” sound and it just sounds cheery.
