Feb. 22nd, 2012 11:00 pmWhen I got to my office at Local College this morning I discovered it was all painted because of recent water damage. So unless I wanted a gigantic headache I knew I had to print everything quickly and go somewhere else. So I went to the library to grade. That worked out quite well.
I just had to teach one class today. I’m making them read Voltaire for Monday since today, when I wanted to discuss it, there were crickets.
I forgot how much I loved the prose of “Reading Lolita in Tehran.” The first eight sections is what my students are reading for their third Writing class reading. And while re-reading this section of the book – I read it 5-6 years ago - I’m astonished at the language and visuals and colors. I know I liked the book but I don’t remember specific details. I have a signed copy of the book that I will show in class tomorrow. I am looking forward to discussing this but I also know they won’t catch many allusions. Except for a few students, they never heard of Nabokov much less Nafisi. I don’t have time to re-read it but I’m really glad I chose to teach it this semester.
