I was pretty much procrastinating on grading. It always gets like this, I plan out to grade a little a day but evenly but I end up doing it all at once. I guess I figure I kill my brain all at once. So all day I was getting myself ready for the binging.

Dexter Season 4. Today was the last episode of Season 4 and it was a shocker. Just as Dexter is ready to perhaps try to live without his Dark Passenger and actually try to be better that he is and try for more and just live with his family, it gets all pulled under him. He does finally kills Trinity but not before Trinity kills Rita and leaves her in the bathtub for Dexter to find. On top of this Dexter finds his son sitting in his mother’s blood, mirroring his own tragic past. Dexter cannot escape and he cannot get vengeance and his whole world just crashed around him. What I really liked about this season is the very clear theme of whether Dexter can balance family and his hobby, whether he has a chance to be a regular guy. Obviously because of family demands Dexter started getting sloppy and making mistakes and one of those mistakes led to repercussions to his family. Dexter knows it is his fault and this season finale sets up Season 5 extremely well, because it opens so many possibilities. John Lithgow was wonderful this season as Trinity because he played it so creepily and believably and insanely well. Early season did drag a bit and not all episodes were right on the money but as a season as a whole it worked really well in storytelling. I had to go online for a few hours to get over the shock of how it ended and needing to see other people’s reactions.
