I woke up to an email from three of my students who did extra credit for my Global class. These are the same performance arts students who thought writing a paper together would be a great idea. But they did put their talent to great use and came up with the song on the lecture about Buddha called “Oh, Buddha” set to Lady Gaga’s “Judas.” They recorded it and made a little video. And then in the afternoon, once I was in my office the two guys from the group showed up and sang “Sweet Gilgamesh” set to “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Young. Very, very clever and funny with great singing voices. This extra credit assignment was really fun for me to listen to.
Abena and I got to talking about students and their paper writing skills or lack thereof, as teachers tend to do since we need the outlet and she told me the funniest thesis. One student wrote a paper and his thesis was “Holocaust was a terrible time for Jews.” These are college students!
I gave my last exam and gave back all the history research papers which I spent pretty much all day grading. Just writing papers left and about 50 final exams for history. Finals weeks was much easier when I was a students.
