Feb. 16th, 2011 11:00 pmWhy am I so reluctant to grade, it is not like its hard? I think because I gave comments on the rough draft for this paper, I really just don’t want to read it all again.
I went into school a little early to talk to Prof S. She needed to see if I let a guest speaker into one of my lectures for a job thing – they are hiring a modern Global historian and need to see their teaching style. While it will mess with my Judaism lecture, I can push it back a bit. She also offered me two classes for the fall – one, 100 level again and the second 200 level class of my choice. I have a week to figure it out. I was looking at the catalog and I’m thinking “Gender and Sexuality in the West.” I don’t know. Maybe I just do something medieval.
I gave my students the second In-Class Exercise (or in class essay really) today. They had to read a chapter on Silk Road and a primary source document on one of the nomadic tribes outside of China. My question really just tested them on how carefully they read the chapter. After class, I showed Nicholas, one of the students who asks questions and generally participates, how to take notes on a chapter to keep all the information straight. No one actually suggested doing something like this before, which is really weird.
Each quiz was 30 minutes long and while my students were writing their short essays, I was doing some writing of my own. I wrote my Methos drabble about Han China (which was all about Methos helping write “The Art of War” (it was one of the sources I assigned to my students and as I was reading it at lunch it occurred to me how perfectly that would fit with the character) and I started my “Torchwood” fic. Then I gave my lecture on Han China.
