Feb. 15th, 2011 11:03 pmOne thing I’m not doing - grading. I keep putting Paper 1 off again. Tomorrow will be brutal. I always to this to myself – I put the grading off and then marathon it. Urgh. I really need to break this habit.
Assignment Two actually proved a good opportunity to teach the students what makes a better thesis and how to make a conclusion better so it is not just a summary. So I think Peer Review day went well and I know what I’m doing next class. Definitely more thesis work. “There are consequences” is not a thesis unless they actually list them. Or “There are advantages and there are disadvantages” – yet, what are they and so what – make a claim of some sort, which side wins out.
I had to write a lecture on Han China for tomorrow, a period that I know practically nothing about. But it is fun to learn about it. I’m also making their in-class exercise 2 pretty easy – at least I think so. They will read a chapter from the Silk Road book and a primary source about one of the nomadic tribes on the Chinese border and all they have to do is tell me in what way that nomadic tribe contribute to the development of the Silk Road. With quotes. The answer is pretty much in the Silk Road chapter. I’m really testing them on how carefully they read.
