Today was my actual first day of school as I was teaching my first class of the semester.

Waking up at 6 something just means that by 3pm I’m wiped out. I do forget over the summer how to get into normal people morning schedule. Why does someone want to be awake before eight?

I got to school early as usual and had lots of time before my class. In the morning, I read my Stephen Fry book and had some breakfast outside by the fountain. Then I came up with Assignment 1. And printed my own Writing sample to replace the standard school one. I’m really glad I gave my own because I can really gauge their reading ability. I already have a silly writing sample with chimpanzees not having supermarkets or police. The girl is misreading Goodall and instead of answering the question, she focused one line about chimps and went off topic into la-la land.

I found over the years that when I teach two classes I always like my first class than second (with few exceptions) and I think this still holds. There is more boy/girl balance in the first class and also the classroom is more square and feels more friendly.

Freshmen are so cute. They still raise their hand to go to the bathroom.

I was just pretty wiped by the time I got home after 4:30 and I spent the rest of the day pretty much relaxing on my bed.

“A Bit of Fry and Laurie” Pilot. God, they are so young. Late twenties, I think. It is very English humor and lots of fun to watch. I do love these kinds of comedy shows. I’m glad Netflix has the DVDs.
