Another video of adaptation of a Lady Gaga song. U of Oregon male a cappela group sings “Bad Romance” (with no instruments) with a pretty cool result.

I was craving pizza so I took a walk to a local pizza restaurant for a slice. I haven’t had pizza in a while. That little trip turned a bit adventurous as I left the pizza place. It is located in a large shopping plaza with a movie theater and the plaza is always full of parked and moving cars. And as I left the store some people ahead of me noticed that one of the cars in the parking lot, pretty close to the line of stores, was on fire. Like actual fire, with flames and everything, not just smoke. Someone else closer to that car called the fire department. The way home was past the car on fire, and obviously I wasn’t going to go that way, so I crossed the parking lot to another line of stores a bit further away but where one could still see what was going on. I figured if the car would blow up or something I would be far enough away. And so we watched the car on fire and waited to the fire trucks which took maybe five minutes to get there. They put out the fire pretty quickly. Well, that was something one does not see every day.

Cross stitching. Postage stamps from different colors. Pink color is actually boring to cross-stitch, I wish it was half-stitch.

Some links about the British election:

New members of UK parliament by race and gender . Not the most promising results.

Queen is waiting before she asks someone to form a government.

Bear and I got to talking about movies tonight and I told him about a Bechdel test . Since he was watching one of the “Superman” movies we quickly realized that those movies won’t pass the test, and neither would “Batman” movies. (“The Dark Knight” really irritated me on its gender roles and representation and is part of the reason I really don’t like that movie.) So Bear started looking at movies on his shelf to see how many movies would pass. The answer: very few. It was a fun discussion.

Pacific Part 8. That was a really good episode. I knew what would happen to the main character so it made it all harder to watch. But I do like episodes where it is not just all battle. The battle scene at the end was really intense and I can’t imagine what those who survived felt. But for me the core of the episode was the romance between Lena and John Basilone. She was a great character and it is nice to see a normal adult woman to be that strong.
