Great interview about World War II experience with Elena Bonner, widow of Andrew Sakharov, a famous intellectual woman in her own right. She was eighteen when the war began and was a nurse through the war. It is an interesting perspective. The interview is in Russian.

Wikipedia’s translating feature is awesome. I finally was able to get some info on sequels to my favorite children’s books that left the characters in peril in the last book I read. The books are originally in Polish and the last two books were not translated into Russian when I was a child. I found a Polish Wikipedia article that Wikipedia translated for me – not the best translation but enough to get the plot points.

The kids wanted me to come outside to play with them again and I really needed to get out of the house so I jumped rope a bit. It is actually good exercise. I was also chatting with Laura, kids’ Mom, a bit and she invited me over to watch a movie. Well, she asked if I had any movies she could watch and if I wanted to watch it with them. So I got “Dan in Real Life,” a movie I like a lot and I figure the kids could watch and miss all the innuendos, and we all watched it on their big tv with snacks and tea. And it was a lot of fun. I also left “Star Trek” at their house because the six year old boy was excited about it when the kids came to my house to pick up the movie. I’m firmly in the camp of exposing children to science fiction even if he just wants to see space fights.
