More grading. Started at 7:30 and went non-stop until 5 with grading, teaching, office hours, more grading. This is the paper when students really ask question. But I’m glad I actually get to explain my paper 4 comments to some students. I read them “A” paper (it was probably more of a B+ but it had a smart moment and it was better than anything else I read) and I made my students work on their outlines in class. I hope they will put in the time. By 5pm I could not look at another paper, my brain was pretty much shut down. I stopped by the main campus to get my paychecks and they still didn’t fix the whole ‘paying me for one class instead of two’ thing. The next paycheck has better be all ready. It was nice to come home and just relax and not think of anything and just watch a fun “House” episode. Go November sweeps. And now sleep.

House S6E9. As somebody put it on TWoP forum, “every interaction on this show is a long con.” There was a lot of that tonight, which certainly kept me on my toes and one of the reasons I love this show. Just unpacking people’s motivations. This was a Thanksgiving episode that was just based around Thanksgiving, no special messages or anything, and I did like that. I don’t watch the show for the patient but he did not grate. The patient was a really genius guy who basically dumbed himself down with cough syrup for years and help a courier job to keep happy and love his wife and he loved not being that smart. The fun part of the episode was of course with House and the fellows. House spent the whole episode trying to break Cuddy and Lucas up and that devolved House and Cuddy playing a long con-game on each other. First House works clinic hours and pretends to be nice to get invited to Thanksgiving by Cuddy (she tells him she is going to her sister’s house). She invites him. When he gets there, after a three hour drive, he discovers Cuddy’s sister is on vacation and Cuddy is actually had the holiday at her place without House. Oh, the look on poor House’s face when he realized this. He actually showed up too. This was, I felt, the cruelest thing Cuddy has done; they like to mess with each other but this seemed really crossing the line. Then House goes to Lucas’ house and pretends to be drunk and vulnerable when he tells Lucas that he loves Cuddy. I think he meant it too in his House way. Cuddy tells House the next day that Lucas broke up with her but she doesn’t want anything to do with House. House tries to sees nice later and even asks her out a few times, but she dismisses him. Finally when she won’t take tickets meant for just her and Rachel, House figures out that she and Lucas didn’t really break up. But at the end it is obvious that both Cuddy and House miss each other even if he decides to stay out of it and Cuddy settles to be seemingly happy with Lucas. Lots of cons. Poor House, Cuddy was just extra mean to him, it seems. On Chase’s front, everyone is all concerned with Cameron leaving him (the conversation between Chase and Taub was excellent and funny, I’m glad Taub is back) so he punches House in the face to make everyone else be afraid to talk to him about Cameron at all. House respects that. Taub uses the picture of a beat up House to convince his wife that he stood up to him since his wife was freezing Taub out. She saw him as a grunt again and couldn’t get it. The idea that Taub hit House turns his wife on. Overall, the episode kept going back and forth in that exciting House way and it was entertaining. I know we have until about episode 14 until some serious progress on Huddy, and that should be fun. I am enjoying everybody acknowledging the situation and not pretending it doesn’t exist. I do feel really bad for House, though. The looks on his face. Plus I enjoyed in this episode in that House actually asked Wilson to be his date for Thanksgiving dinner, even if Wilson didn’t go. And clinic duty with a new fun male nurse!
