bearshortyOn the way home from work we had Classical radio station on in the car. At one point, they started playing Shostakovich’s Jazz Suites. The music, the melody, the emphasis on different instruments was awesome and fun! I don’t think I ever heard those before and it was very familiar and interesting and new at the same time. It was familiar because Shostakovich’s music has a very Russian core to it and I probably heard similar waltzes in movies. I looked this up at home and there is a whole “Jazz Album.” I think I will buy it for Mama’s birthday and so will have it too. Sometimes some melodies just grab you.
House S6E8. Taub is back! New team of Chase, Taub and 13 with Foreman looks fun but I’ll be curious about the balance. Hopefully 13 will be not obnoxious. I’m not really going to miss Cameron and her self-righteousness. She blamed House and his emphasis on puzzles instead of right and wrong and human lives on influencing Chase to kill the dictator. Apparently Chase can’t make his own decisions and Cameron herself never done anything wrong. At least she admitted she was in love with House at one point (which was wildly inappropriate at the time). The episode was good and solid again, nothing too awesome but I do appreciate this season’s consistency. And T’Pol was the patient’s wife.
I had a headache most of the day. I have a strong suspicion it is a weather headache since the weather jumps up and down in temperature. It was nice and warm and then cold again. Can there be just one stable temperature. Well, until then, advil is my friend.
Fun stuff
Deuteronomy WTF moment of the day: Chapters 26-30 have more curses for disobedience, blessings for obedience and renewal of covenant. The covenant only begins once the people cross the Jordan into the promised land. They set up an altar on Mount Ebal with all the laws written up for reinforcement. Half the tribes get to stand on one mountain and yell out curses while the other half on a different mountain will say blessings. Very efficient. The curses are pretty much recounting of many sins like sleeping with an animal or a father’s wife. The blessings are more general as a reward for following laws. Then again more general curses follow including the threat of all kinds of fun diseases including “festering sores and an itch.” This section is the reinforcement of the laws. Curses are definitely a longer section then blessings and much more descriptive. Unlike the Christian threats of heaven and hell, all curses are about making a current live miserable and subject to Murphy’s law. There is even a threat of enemies attacking and from their siege making people resort to cannibalism of their children, and even worse, no compassion to share the flesh of the children with brother or wife. Lovely stuff.
