Dec. 23rd, 2010 10:36 pmHappy Birthday, Mama! We had lots of birthday food today with salads and candy. As usual she grumbled when actually opening presents but she really liked them and even thanked me for the hand cream in the evening. She really liked the sample they sent too.
I had my doctor’s appointment with an urologist today. Finally seeing a specialist who can actually offer an explanation is priceless. Having a hot intern take my history also didn’t hurt. They think it is just inflammation and there will be a few more tests in January but it is good to actually put a name to what’s been going on.
Since it was Mama’s birthday, my cousin who lives in California called to wish her happy birthday and then they got on Skype so we could see her little seven month old baby Iris. Iris has these gigantic brown eyes.
I ordered the quilt cross-stitch project on Amazon; I didn’t realize they had them. It will save me a trip to a crowded mall to Michaels. Of course, I had to pick one where animals are reading a book. I’m really looking forward to making this. I usually prefer counted cross stitch and this is stamped one, but I like making something specific as a gift.
Caprica S1E15 “Dirteaters” This episode passed by so quickly. It is mainly Joe and Sam episode and , wow, they had tragic childhoods. Sam’s actions as a kid precipitated the Tauron military into torturing their parents and killing his mother and Joseph shot soldiers and killed his father as the father asked. No wonder both of them are messed up and the backstory really makes sense for who they are. I really like their brotherly bond. That torture scene was really hard to watch. Clarice is so nuts.
S1E16 “The Heavens Will Rise” I liked Daniel’s understatement “She’s still mad.” No kidding. I’m so glad Amanda called Duram on setting up Mar-beth. I think Singh shot him and got the band. Oh, Odin and the holoporn. Go Lacy, first controlling the robots and then making a move on Odin.
S1E17 “Here Be Dragons” Wow, Grandma. One does not mess with her. Amanda rocks too. How did Daniel survive, indeed. Amanda is much more interesting now in the second half of the season now that she is doing much more than just moping. Poor Willie. I was spoiled for this twist. Poor Joseph too to lose both his children. Having another child with Evelyn will be good but so much tragedy in his life. Evelyn would really have a big influence on her son with the ship building and her brother’s farm.
S1E18. “Apotheosis” Last episode. I’m sad it is over but I needed to finish the episodes before leaving for Christmas. That was a nice finale. It is funny how the Greystones have grown on me. And it was a nice conclusion. I wish there was more; it is rare to see intellectual sci-fi. I think I like this show more than “Battlestar Galactica” which is funny since when I saw a pilot of it I wasn’t sure I would like it. But then the first time I saw Battlestar miniseries I wasn’t happy with it and it took me giving the show another try a few years later to get into it.
