Oct. 15th, 2010 10:29 pmMid-semester Folder review day. That means I was up at 6:20, on campus by 7:30 and grading, grading and grading non-stop until 1:30. I had 10 papers to finish grading (and they take about half an hour each) and I also had to give midterms in my two classes at the same time. I could grade while I gave them midterms, at least. And then, after grabbing some pizza, I was in folder review until 4:30, reading other people’s papers and writing letters to some of their students while they wrote letters to some of mine. Surprisingly, my brain hasn’t fried. Usually after a marathon grading session I get brain pudding. I find it funny that when the students just turn in their papers I have hard time just grading two or three at a time, but by the end, I get on a roll and can make myself do ten. Having a deadline helps. This weekend – midterms. I also got my final folder review date sorted out to the day I wanted (I’m going on a small vacation with Bear in December and I really just had one day to find someone for final folder review). So yay. Long, productive day.
I am getting my Spring Semester sorted out too. Since the folder review director is actually in charge of scheduling, she asked us for our ‘wish list’ today. I think I will teach two classes of “Expository Writing” (or Expos) again, for the first time in years, since they don’t really have Basic Composition in the spring. On top of this I sent my email again to Local College that was seeking adjuncts (I finally figured out what was wrong with my school email account) and I think I’ll get to teach “Global History to 1600”. The pay in Local College in miserly, the writing program pays more than twice per class, but I really want to teach history again, so this would be wonderful. And developing a global history class is probably a good idea too. This is all still tentative, but I like having at least a small idea of what I will be doing next semester.
Community S2E4. I was laughing from the word ‘go’ when the Dean introduced the rival college new space capsule: City College College Pioneer (CCCP for short or USSR in English) Very clever, writers. Hee. I didn’t even know this was the space episode. Walking in slo-mo on purpose! Dean has circled all public restrooms and truck stops in the air with star ratings! Not thumbs! Go, show, for pulling a dirty joke. The butt flag! This was hysterical. I love this show.
Chile mine and how the rescue happened from the beginning. Interview with the main engineer.
