Day 3 of New Hampshire trip

We spend most of the day by the lake. It is so beautiful and peaceful up here. I really wish could stay for longer here.

I woke up at 7:30 and by 8am, after reading a bit of National Geographic, while Bear was still asleep with his head under his pillow, I was actually really excited to get up and start my day, which doesn’t happen too often lately. Yeva and I went to have breakfast while everyone else were still sleeping. I wore my red polka dots dress.

When we got back, Marianna and Adama were still asleep while Bear was eating his cereal and watching TV in the living room, so Yeva gave me a bit of a make-over. She did my hair with a hot iron straightener she always brings with her. And then she did some make-up too. My hair looks nice and straight now, and not puffy. I have no patience to do this myself, personally, but it is nice to have someone else do this. We took some pictures of me looking all pretty by the fireplace.

Yeva, Bear and I then went to a local bookstore while Marianna and Adama went to work out. Seriously, I never understand working out on vacation. Even Bear took a day off from working out. Yeva then left to go to Walmart (another thing I don’t understand is shopping on vacation – which I vehemently refused to accompany Yeva with), while Bear and I took a nice stroll through the village and the lake. We discovered a really excellent and ridiculously cheap ice-cream place. I got a White Mountain Raspberry Swirl on a Waffle Cone for only $1.75. Their ‘small’ was gigantic. That was pretty much my lunch. It was excellent. It was sunny and the view was gorgeous and I was just happy to walk with Bear along the lake.

Then we all went to lie by the lake and get a suntan. We reserved a kayak for 2:30 and until then, we just enjoyed the sun. Well, mostly us girls.

At 2:30 Bear and I went kayaking all across our part of the lake. I sat at the front, as usual, but I actually rowed much more than usual this time. We stayed out maybe 45 minutes. We passed by a wedding and some nice looking houses. And we had to avoid many of the boats on the lake. Some produced nice big waves. Then Marianna and Adama tried the kayak but they only went out for about fifteen minutes. Yeva and I went next. I was at the back this time and we went another forty-five minutes. Less boats this time. My arms were nice and sore by the end of this. This is the type of ‘work out’ I like. It was so nice just being on the lake and chatting.

Throughout the sun tanning and just relaxing by the lake I had two apples. The hotel has a free basket by the front desk. I haven’t had too many apple craving lately, but here, on nature, I’m just eating them. I had more apples in the last two days than in the last couple of months.

At 5pm, Bear and I went home to shower, turn on my computer for music and start cooking. We were making one of the recipes out of Jamie Oliver cookbook Papa gave me for my birthday. The recipe was for Vegetable Jalfrezi. I asked Marianna to pick up the sauce in the Indian place near her and I bought all the vegetables before the trip. I didn’t use cilantro since it didn’t really survive the trip up but otherwise I used everything else. It was certainly interesting to make since I never really cooked some of these vegetables before like butternut squash or even cauliflower that much. Afterward, my fingertips were actually burning from the chili pepper. I soaked them in milk for a bit. That was a weird sensation. Bear and I cut up the vegetable and I made a lot of rice too. It took longer to cook that I thought it would but the end result was nice. Adama also made plantains. We all sat at a table, which Bear sat while I made rice, and we had a nice meal together.

After dinner, we all watched “Creation” in our room (since it had a king size bed where we could all fit and a DVD player) with a moon reflected on the water out of the window. “Creation” is a movie with Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly and it is about Charles Darwin and his wife and writing of “Origin of Species.” It was a pretty average movie. I was tired and even napped a bit during the movie so the movie wasn’t too exciting.

I really wish we had another day or two in here. I really don’t want to leave.
