9 Iyar/23 April, 2010
Apr. 23rd, 2010 11:00 pmToday was immigrating to America day. 17 years ago, it was the longest day with all the time change and my first plane ride and a four hour stop over in an airport in Ireland. And arriving to New York. I had to get up really really early in the morning and I was very excited actually. My grandmother was going with us and as much as I was going to me the rest of my family and some friends I was ready for a new adventure. I can’t believe it has been that long. Now, even as I am still quite fluent in Russian, my thinking and writing language is English.
Today I went to the city for a dinner in honor of Janna’s birthday. It was supposed to be in a Japanese place but that closed for renovation, so we went to a Mexican restaurant. I don’t particularly like Mexican food, but this place was pretty good and I had a delicious chicken fajita. I really like having all these colorful vegetables on my place. Although they gave so much food. I took most of it home to have for lunch the next day because I was already stuffed on chips. The banana margarita was nice too, although I only had half as my head can’t take too much alcohol in certain situations without feeling too much off balance. And the company was great with many people who went to the same Undergrad. The whole price of dinner plus present was more than I planned to spent but I keep reminding myself to relax about it since it was a fun evening. I had to leave after dinner since I knew Papa would wait up for me since he is crazy and overprotective. The rest went to get ice-cream.
