Mar. 15th, 2010 11:00 pmUS Census is cool. Papa doesn’t understand the excitement. As a historian who loves looking at old documents and wishes that there was a census that counted everyone in the household and not just head of household, I really appreciate it. When it came in the mail today I rushed to be the one to fill it out. The questions are pretty basic, just names, dates of birth and race. In the original US Census in 1790 there was a question of how many slaves people owned. And I like how in the census now there is no ‘head of the family.” People can be listed in any order. Ten years ago I was in England for study abroad and my parents dealt with the census. It is fun to be around for it now. This census won’t be released for 72 years but it will be in historical record after that. Here is a humorous look at the Census.
House S6E16. Aw, the look of love in Wilson’s face when he gave House the organ. The only piece of furniture he could pick is the one that House would love the most. I think this was the most HoYay moment of the series for me. And Taub, no! I hated that ending, because I really hoped Taub could learn and change. His poor wife.
This “recommendation” from Texas history textbook “redesign” that will pretty much affect the rest of the high school students all over US is just disturbing on many levels:
Thomas Jefferson no longer included among writers influencing the nation’s intellectual origins. Jefferson, a deist who helped pioneer the legal theory of the separation of church and state, is not a model founder in the board’s judgment. Among the intellectual forerunners to be highlighted in Jefferson’s place: medieval Catholic philosopher St. Thomas Aquinas, Puritan theologian John Calvin and conservative British law scholar William Blackstone. Heavy emphasis is also to be placed on the founding fathers having been guided by strict Christian beliefs.
Founding fathers were not guided by ‘strict Christian beliefs.’ They were full of Enlightenment ideas. Ugh. Here is the link to the whole article.
