Blog for Feb 24 – Mar 2

We’ve moved! I don't have the Internet until Thursday, March 2nd, so I'm just going to type and update in a Word document, and then post when it is finally installed. I do have some 4G data, so I'm not completely cut off and can read blogs and news, but I am trying to be a little conservative with it.

Friday, Feb 24 On Friday, we were officially moving all the furniture. The movers were supposed to be here around 8am, but of course they were late and only got there at 9:30 or so. But at least they were efficient. They wrapped everything quickly and moved it out and took about an hour to load. Then they headed to the new place, where my parents were waiting for them, while we finished some other boxes, ate some lunch and then finally headed over with Tanya around 1pm, once the movers were all done unloading.

It was the first time I've seen the place since early December and I was not allowed in so as not to breathe anything I shouldn't. The renovations are pretty amazing. I love the floors and the light green of the bedrooms. My parents did a great job. I really love the kitchen – it's big and bright. I wasn't 100% finished yet but already looks impressive enough.

No nap for Tanya, but that probably helped to adjust her to her new bed and not sleeping with me anymore. Weird to have a bed to myself. But really awesome to be able to make the bed again in the morning. I stopped bothering since Tanya would nap in it too, but now it's nice and covered during the day, just how I like it.

Not a lot of sleep for me the first night – too many weird noises as is usual on the first night, the heater in the room is noisy, and I did have to comfort Tanya briefly at 2:30. (I did have to stay up from 4 to 5 am on Monday, and 1:15 to 3:45 on Tuesday – she used to use my hair to soother herself and all this adjustment is hard for her. But she slept through the night the last two nights by herself so hopefully she got more adjusted. She's also been playacting with her toy Minnie about sleeping by herself, leaving the room, and coming back to soothe Minnie if Minnie calls)

Weekend , Feb 25-26 – busy weekend of moving everything before Bear left for work on Sunday at 11. Putting together all the furniture (assembling the bed again, making the table and chairs, reassembling the desk), deciding what to keep and what we won't need anymore. The crib is the crib again with high level, awaiting baby sister. Tanya put big Mickey in it as a place holder. I unpacked some – CDs and DVDs and some book shelves are done. I'm trying to sort and rearrange everything better too. Got CDs and DVDs in more thematic and/or alphabetical order. Mom and I went to the local supermarket on Sunday. There is also a bakery around the corner that makes Russian bread – perfect for me. I can't eat American bread – it is too sweet for me, but give me Russian rye bread anytime. When we go play in the little yard behind the building, it smells of baking bread, one of my favorite smells in the world (definitely would be in Amorentia potion for me).

I missed the Oscars since the TV antenna was not picking up signals, only a few channels. We will figure it out later. At least I made the radio work to the classic station today.

Monday, Feb 27 – I needed to deal with a lot bureaucratic stupidity and crossed wires. First the mortgage – our mortgage transferred to another company, apparently in January. The new company sent notice that they should get the payment after 2/1 but sent it too late as I already sent the payment to the old one. They did say the old one should send them the check and it should be fine. The old one sent a letter in February to say that the mortgage will transfer on 2/13 and after to send payments to the new company. New company just sent me the bill for March and it is double, since they still want me to pay February. When I called them, they told me I should call the old company myself to make sure they send those February money to them and for now just pay the double and they will apply the credit later. Like why is this my job? I called the old company and apparently they did transfer money to the new one, so they are not sure what happened but will investigate. The new company called again to make sure I'm paying in March and they again made a note that February funds should come from the other company. Because they didn't note it the first time I called? I really hope everything will get sorted out soon.

Second, the old apartment that sent a rent check for March anyway. I called them and they just said to toss the bill. Optimum also sent a bill although I canceled my service in old apartment already, because various branches don’t talk to each other. I confirmed with them that I can just ignore that bill too.

On Monday morning, my Dad and I drove to old apartment to meet with the super and give in the keys. It was a little strange walking around in an empty apartment. Gave the midterm in my classes.

Tuesday, Feb 28 was a low key day. I did finish "A Wrinkle in Time" which I didn't really like. I don’t know why – I think the plot was a little silly/weird and some religious undertones made me uncomfortable. Maybe I would have liked it as a child.

Wed, March 1st – Tanya slept through the night without bugging anyone – yay. I graded midterms in the morning and then went outside with her for a bit. Got potato filled samsa for work today from local supermarket – yummy. Kitchen guy finally showed up to finish the kitchen today, so when I got home from work, my Mom already organized the kitchen well.

Bear sold my Buffy Season 8 comic books on EBay! He's on the selling streak this week as our little Panda washer from the old apartment sold too, and he shipped it already.

And now we got internet installed and I need to grade because I have a big work deadline on Monday. Good to be able to just go online. And I just downloaded "The Goblin Emperor" from the library so there is distraction too.
