Happy New Year to those who celebrate the Jewish New Year.

In the morning I made soup for Tanya and graded a paper and then we left to take the train to Manhattan. Jo, the oldest daughter of my friend Janna, is turning 3 tomorrow, and she was having a small birthday party at the playground near her apartment building. We were not sure if it would be rainy and if the party will be cancelled but by 8:30am Janna declared it a go. Tanya was excited to take a train. We transferred to the 6 train and were about four stops away at Astor Place (we needed 33rd street stop), when the train stopped in the station and announced that due to a person on the tracks at Grand Central, the trains won't move for a while. It's a terrible reason but frustrating at the same time. There was no point sitting on the train, so we decide to just walk it. It was about 25 blocks plus 2 giant block and it took us 25 minutes. But the weather was lovely today, not too cold and not rainy, and it was good exercise. Tanya hates being in the stroller for too long, so she was really happy to finally see the playground.

The party was good. There weren't too many people there. Mostly the kids played in the playground, there were baloons, pizza and cupcakes. I let Tanya try pizza for the first time, just some bites from my pizza, which she liked, and she had a lot of cupcake. She was most excited by blowing out the candle on it as Janna let all the girls do that, with Jo blowing out three candles, of course.

The way back was much less dramatic and we got home by 2:30. I spent the afternoon grading some more - just 4 papers left on this first set. And then we gave Tanya an early bath, and now early bedtime, since she skipped the nap again as she was too excited. Hopefully, we will get back into regular routine tomorrow. Bear is home with her while I go to work, so fingers crossed. His nap record is iffy.

2. What’s the worst book you’ve ever read, and why?

I don't know if there is a worst book. There were books I didn't care for like The Great Gatsby or Dune . I don't care for a book if I can't care for its characters. But for the most part, if I don't like the book I just won't read it. So I don't know if I have the worst. And I don't really strive to retain bad books in memory. I'm trying to think if there was a book in school that I had to read and that I didn't care for, but I can't really think of anything. I never bothered to read Twilight or Fifty Shades of Gray since I already knew they were bad by reputation.
