On the first day of the Olympics I always watch the most. It is Saturday too, which makes it easier. I did try to sample a few sports – some on TV and some on the Internet.
I also went rollerblading today for 40 minutes and I could pretend it was the Olympics.
My favorite and unexpected sport of the day was archery with men’s team competition. That was a lot of fun to watch.
Sports I watched today:
Men’s Cycle Road race – I caught it as I was eating breakfast and it made me really miss England with all the scenery. I did see that crash and the great win for Kazakhstan.
Fencing – individual foil. I watched one women’s match. It is not for me.
Trying internet watch – I want to watch just a little bit of each sport – not just the ones I usually watch. AdobeFlash keeps crashing though - I did install the newest one but it is still having trouble – mostly when it tries to go to commercial. Then I need to reload. But I was able to watch a little bit at least if I keep reloading. And it is better than nothing.
Archery – men’s team quarter final – France/Mexico – Mexico won. Then semi-finals – US vs S. Korea – go US! And they won! Against Korea – and they will go for Silver or Gold. Yay. That was a great game – all those 10s. I’m watching the proper stance – Bear has bows and arrows for backyard archery practice. Mexico/Italy semifinal – Alvarez is one consistent dude. I think I want it to be USA, Mexico, Korea – based on skill so far. Italy/USA/S. Korea is the final result. One of the Italian guy kept making this yucky face with his lips touching the bow – that did not look right at all. That final between Italy and USA was intense – 1 point difference and 10 for Italy needed for the win. I watched the ceremony too – it is always great to see grown men so emotional and crying.
Equestrian dressage – never saw this before. I like the US horsie hat. I don’t really understand it so it doesn’t look that interesting to me. I watched just one showing and it was more than enough for me.
Rowing –Women’s Pair 1st heat 2000m – Great Britain won that round with USA in second and Romania in 3rd.
Primetime: Gymnastics and swimming. Great job on the pummel horse, British gymnast. I missed the Chinese meltdown but the replays were brutal. I knew the swimming result before I watched the race – since one can’t avoid the internet. Primetime coverage is always too much – they need to stop talking much and just show more events and diverse teams. I do love male gymnastics – all those arms and muscles.
