Apr. 1st, 2012 09:49 pmSo this morning my radio alarm clock decided to play an April Fool joke on me. I set it for 7am since I wanted to grade in the morning before Bear came over at 1pm (I just have a lot of grading). And when it rang, I just woke up and started grading – I pretty much sit up in bed and grade until breakfast. It did occur to me that it was a little dark for 7 but I was still sleepy since I went to sleep at 1am, so I let it go. About an hour or three papers later, I looked at my cell phone clock to discover that it was 7:04am. So my radio-alarm clock, which I bought many years ago before Congress pushed DST earlier, thought the time was changing last night. Yeah. So I really woke up at 6am. Joy.
Bear and I had a normal, non-wedding related date today where we went to the Indian buffet (the restaurant is expanding apparently) and then we went to see “Hunger Games.” I also stopped by Toys R Us since I’m seeing Galya on Saturday and as an Auntie I get to spoil her. So I got her a little stuffed owl.
“Hunger Games” I really liked it. I think it was pretty much the book on screen for me. I liked seeing the perspective of the Gamemakers and contrast between Capitol and the Districts and emphasis on how it was a TV show. The shaky cam in the beginning made me a little nauseous. I’m glad it was lessened later. I think this is the kind of movie where I can’t dissociate it from the book and I can’t imagine people watching it who haven’t read the book. I loved Katniss’ expression of terror right before she went into the Arena and the brutality of the fighting in the arena. People in the movie theater clapped when Thresh killed the District 2 girl, which I found disturbing. It just occurred to me why – the movie theater goers became the Capitol audience there. (When District 2 girl had Katniss on the ground, she really should not monologue.) But in general, I really thought it was a great adaptation and I’m looking forward to future movies.
