My computer didn't want to play the final key scenes of Birdman last night, so I finished it this morning on the DVD player in the living room while Bear, who had a day off, took Tanya to the playground. (We don't turn on the big TV if she's home.)

The movie was good and I did enjoy it. Well, except the jazz soundtrack since I really don't like jazz. The acting and the story and the characters were interesting. It was shot in a really weird way. I don't think, however, that it was the best movie of last year. I think actors voted for it because it is about an actor and others voted for it for politics but other nominated movies were better.

I took a walk to a couple of stores in the morning. I'm heading to my parents tomorrow but I really wanted my black Russian bread.

Last year my dentist told me that I needed to redo a root canal that was done 12 years ago on top of getting a new crown for that tooth. The specialist place he sent me too quoted $1600 upfront for just the redo, with insurance then reinbursing half. I had just gone on unpaid maternity leave and that was a bit much. But I started saving from the money my grandparents give me once in a while. This check up, my dentist was pushing for it more. I finally got the money together and called that specialist office today with more questions. When I wanted to confirm the price, they first upped it to $1735 and then, the woman on the phone asked if there was a post to be removed. Well, obviously there is a post, it's a redo of the root canal. That's extra $500 for a lovely total of $2235 upfront. The insurance would reimburse half but then I would need a crown too. I just started crying. That's ridiculous amount of money which I refuse to spend on a procedure which is not even guaranteed to work. I'm working part-time now, and money is scarce right now and just no. I'd rather do an extraction if it becomes necessary and put this money in Tanya's college fund. What I am going to do is get a second opinion. I already set up an appointment for 22nd with a dentist my Mom told me about.

A couple of days ago my mother's cousin from Boston texted me asking when I will be home this week so she can visit to meet Tanya and also hinted pretty heavily that she needs to stay in Brooklyn overnight. Rules of hospitality and family, no matter how annoying, did dictate that I extend the invitation although I did explain to her that because Tanya sleeps with me in the bed right now, Bear usually sleeps on the futon in the living room lately and we would need to get an inflatable mattress at his parents. She had no problem with that and said she would let us know Sunday if she would come for one night on Monday. Argh. My parents have a nice house with a guest room 30 minutes away and I'm in the one bedroom apartment with a one year old. Turns out she needed to stay in Brooklyn and not in Staten Island because she arranged a date. At least I didn't have to entertain her for more than a few hours today. She came at 4:30 and left on her date around 6. I gave her my keys so I don't have to think about it. We forgot to look for the mattress when we were visiting Bear's parents. It's our mattress but we left it there at some point. So Bear created a bed on the floor from various blankets because he doesn't want to crowd Tanya. (Tanya just wanted to roll around on that makeshift bed -she seems to live bedding) Last time this cousin visited our apartment we walked around with a candle afterward to get rid of bad energy -she even stresses my Dad out who is generally unflappable. I just think she's inconsiderate.
