Jul. 22nd, 2015 08:09 pmThe heat has finally gone down. It's still hot at 85F or 29C, but with a breeze it is much much nicer. And it was in the 70s in the morning. It was nice not to be stuck at home today.
I finished reading Kosmoekolukhi by Olga Gromyko last night, book 2 in the trilogy. REVIEW WITH SPOILERS. I enjoyed it a lot - both the first part with various misadventures and the more intense slavery and capture plot of the second half, although the first one was probably a little more fun for me. These books are fun -the crew are all lovable and I really enjoy the characters. Dan is written differently in this book, now that we know the truth about him but the author did provide an explanation for it that now he can ask questions he wouldn't before. Still, people couldn't figure out that he was a cyborg in the first book and in this one all strangers seemingly can and it's not as easy to blend. The only negative thing about these books is lack of women. Polina is really the only one (Jill just makes a tiny cameo) and she is written so stereotypically. The only time she comes alive is with her excitement about different species and her zoology and science knowledge.
Yesterday I finally had my dentist appointment. I get very anxious at the dentist. Before the appointment I was already stressing and during too. I even shake a bit. I just had to do a cleaning and the dentist even offered laughing gas if I needed to relax. But I hate drugs of any kind (hence giving birth without epidural) so I just rode it out. I know it's irrational but I still get very nervous. I have to go back for a filling in two weeks. I'm envious of Bear sometimes because he only has had one cavity his whole life. And he doesn't really floss. But he did have a lot of dental work as a teenage because of his small jaw so I'm sure that wasn't fun. I hope Tanya inherits his teeth and my jaw size.
