May. 24th, 2014 10:38 pmThe weather made it a great start to the Memorial Day weekend. It only rained in the morning and then the sky cleared up, with nice blue and 70F, so it was warm but not humid. Perfect day for an outing. Bear and I went over to his best friend's Jeremy's house and the plan was to take a drive out east all the way to the end of the Long Island's North Fork. So Jeremy, his fiance Fran, Bear and I took a nice road trip. That part of Long Island is farm country and different wineries (although we only focused on farms, not wine), and it is just very country, and very pleasant.
We stopped by first in some local store to get some lunch (I got chicken parm sandwich and Bear got sausage and pepper sandwich - which were ok, but not brilliant, but it was good to just have food). And then we drove and would stop by and get out at different farms. I wanted to get some local honey, which I did get - one with clover and one with wildflowers. I want to give one to my parents. We also got a giant delicious cookie at a farm where Bear got some tomato plants to experiment with - he wants to try to grow them in our apartment. We also got goat yogurt at a goat farm, which was very delicious. The goat farm let you come close to the animals - goats, chickens, llama, donkey and very adorable baby goats - and even see goats being milked. It was nice to see the animals outside and just able to roam around. No wonder their milk is delicious. And there was a lavender farm too - Bear got some soap for his Mom's birthday in two weeks.
At the end of the drive there was State Park with a beach that had a few rocking benches. It was starting to get just a bit chilly but it was still so nice just to sit there, looking at the water.
When we got back to Jeremy's town, we went to a "Taste of Africa" place that was food from Ghana. The people who ran the place were so great and friendly and personable and I was happy to leave a big tip. And they had a sample plate for me, since I was there for the first time. The food was pretty good, although next time I would get a curry that Bear got - that was great. So something different and nice.
So overall, a fun, relaxing day.
