I haven't been feeling well the last few days and a bit last week - I think it is all walking around in the heat. I had to be outside for work and even though I drank ridiculous amount of water, perhaps my body was just not too happy. At least the temperatures are going back to normal this week.

I'm seeing a lot of the city with this internship - I was in four out of five New York boroughs in the last two weeks. And I finally did one day of phonebanking. It was nice to be in the office during 98F temperatures but trying to convince people to volunteer for seven hours is not the most fun job.

Last weekend was pretty fun. On Saturday, after work I met with Bear in Manhattan. We had the free tickets to the concert in Central Park by NY Philharmonic with Mariah Carey. We got dinner and went to meet my friends there but they wouldn't let Bear in with an umbrella - there was a serious list of a gazillion things you couldn't bring, including an umbrella on a day where it looked like it might rain at any second. Bear's umbrella is big and awesome and he doesn't care for crowds so he wondered around Central Park and then FAO Schwarts and the Apple store instead while I met up with Yeva and a few others at the concert. We sat on the grass and it was pretty relaxing. Mariah Carey sang four songs - her arm sling matched the material of her dress. Then there were fireworks (Bear could see them too). After, we all drove to Brooklyn to this Russian karaoke bar. Bear and I just stayed for a little while since some people were smoking there, even though it is illegal in New York, and we are not really late night people or club people.

Sunday was more our style. We drove to Staten Island to my parents' house to see their new renovations and new wall colors. After lunch there, Bear and I went to the Beach Fair where we actually bought a lot of cheap summer beach fair stuff - an anklet for me and a magnetic dart board for both of us. It was pretty fun.

From this Thursday to today, I was again in Staten Island, staying with my parents for a bit. My Mom hurt her back and wanted me to come over for a bit. I still went to work on Friday and Saturday but from their house. Because of the heat, which made top floor pretty hot, and their renovations, I did sleep on their couch too - I can't wait to them to get their new bedroom furniture so if I stay over again it would be more comfortable. But I did get to watch their nice TV with on Demand, and I basically caught up to SYTYCD. I love that dance show. Online, you can only see an episode like a month later - so it was good to watch it all at once.

In the last two weeks I've also read and finished "Anansi Boys" by Neil Gaiman. Reading this book, which was the last novel of his I haven't read before, made me realize why I didn't really like "The Ocean at the End of the Lane" that much. In the latter book, there wasn't much humor. I like Gaiman's humor, snarky humor is fabulous and "Anansi Boys" had it. It was funny. Even though I could guess at lot of upcoming plot points, it was still a fun story and the humor was great. I really had fun reading it - more than "American Gods" even. The humor reminded me of "Good Omens" a bit, which is one of my top five all time books. "The Ocean" book is just creepy - it is not fun creepy, and that is probably why "The Ocean" is my least favorite of him.
