Sep. 26th, 2011 11:00 pmI graded some papers during office hours but I found it hard to concentrate today. I know I will end up marathoning grading again; I really can’t just ration.
I had lunch with Abena, a new professor. She did a lecture in my class when she was interviewing last year and she is my age. So it was fun. I like having people to socialize with at work.
Did two lectures today, one on Ancient Greece and one on Germanic law. I really need to figure out how to get them to read more. I’m trying to be more direct about what we will discuss. Maybe call on them more directly? They can’t even figure out how to do bibliography properly by themselves – I give them a citation guide but god forbid they read something. They wait for me to explain. It is a bit frustrating.
I’m giving a test in my History of Law class on Wednesday and one smart aleck tried to get out it by claiming religious holidays. I don’t think it occurred to him that I celebrate the same ones. I told him that since the New Year doesn’t start until sunset and our class ends at 4, he is perfectly capable of taking the test. He looked surprised that I knew this and did look a caught out.
In the evening, I knew I had to grade and I still put it off. Well, I will bring 6am wake up call upon myself tomorrow.
