My first day of history classes was today. Talking for three hours straight was a bit exhausting – I need to bring more water. It was certainly different to have two different classes back to back – I had to change mental gears to go from Mesopotamia to start of Roman Republic. It is a bit shocking that students don’t really know or want to say why we are in a year 2011- what we are counting from (I always go over BCE/CE BC/AD timeline in the beginning ever since a student asked me a long time ago how did people count backwards then).

I got in to work early since I had to print the syllabi and lectures and fill out paperwork. The computer in the Adjunct Office is not set up yet so I used the computer in the secretary’s office. Her daughter, who goes to Local College, was there too and we had a great time talking about the awesomeness of Orlando and Harry Potter world. At noon, I went to get my usual chicken fajita for lunch and then I went to teach.

The classroom was a bit better. There is a whiteboard now, although there wasn’t a good eraser there. And they put in some technology so I could actually use Powerpoint. But overall it was a good first class day.
