May. 7th, 2011 10:35 pmToday was the day of Marianna’s baby shower. She is due in three weeks already. This year just flew by. My parents and I went to Brooklyn this morning to visit my grandparents and then they dropped me off at Yeva’s. Yeva actually only took an hour to get ready once I got there and we made it to the party nicely on time, which is rare. Her Mom also came with us. We stopped at Baby R Us on the way and got little cards for our presents and some wrapping paper. My gift to Marianna is the blanket I’m stitching and that won’t be ready for another month so a few weeks ago I got her a Russian toy called – nevalyashka. It is a doll that of you push it, will come back up. It is a favorite of babies and very popular.

The shower itself was pretty nice. I’ve never been to a baby shower before so it was pretty much like the regular party only with some games like unscrambling baby related words. There were a lot of people from both sides of the family and guys were invited too. Bear got Marianna a sock puppet monkey. There was a lot of food. Marianna’s sister, who hosted, got Mexican food and then Adama’s family brought trays and trays of very good Mali food that they made themselves. There was lamb and rice and plantains and I took a whole tray of it home and we had more for dinner. And there was cake too. I was in charge of making a list of who brought what gift once Marianna and Adama were opening the gifts. Marianna’s dad who knows me from when we were in high school commented how I looked so serious doing it, just like when I was a child and studied at their house. Marianna’s oldest niece looked so grown up now – she is eleven. Where does time go.

After the baby shower Bear drove me home and we hung out for the rest of the evening. First we drove to the beach near my house and went for a very nice walk, then we warmed up that leftover food we brought with us and then we watched some “Community” and the new episode of “Doctor Who.” Bear doesn’t watch tv shows by himself, but he would watch it with me. He’s seen occasional ‘Doctor Who’ episodes but not in season storyline form.

Cross stitch: more terra cotta for big bear’s head.
